they've got some good young talent in SGA, harrell, and shamet. and lou off the bench

assuming SGA and shamet make strides next season i'd say they could finish top 5 in the west for sure. don't think they could get by teams like the blazers, rockets, or jazz

Kawhi alone makes them a contender that's why they and everyone else wants him so badly. Look what he did in the east against arguably teams that were p4p as strong as western conference teams-bucks and 6ers. He put those guys on his back and carried them. The claps aren't much lesser of a team then Toronto without Kawhi let's be real.

What I’m saying is the Nets are a legit franchise, and have a strong fanbase back east. I’m originally from the North Jersey area. The Knicks have always been threatened by the Nets. The Nets have 2 ABA Championships (1974 and 1976) with DR J as their best player. The Knicks fought like hell to prevent the Nets from joining the NBA. The Knicks would love for their relationship to the Nets to be viewed like Lakers vs Clippers. But the Knicks have a complex about themselves seeing how they have a mediocre history pre-early 1970s when they won two NBA Titles. By the mid 1970s, the Nets were the better Pro Basketball team locally and won their two titles more recently. Since the NBA-ABA merger neither team has won an NBA tite, both have made the finals twice, the Nets more recently (02 and 03), and have had more playoff runs from 02 to the present than the Knicks do. The Nets story has been one of always posing a legitimate threat to the Knicks for superiority, and the Knicks, while having deep pocket ownership, their own network, and majority media coverage, keep finding new ways to lose relevance. Since the start of the 00-01 season the Knicks have only made the playoffs 4x. Post Merger, the only time the Knicks dwarfed the Nets on the court was during the Pat Riley-Jeff Van Gundy years of Patrick Ewing’s career.

Lastly, I’ll just say, the Knicks owe Kobe and David Falk a debt of gratitude that it leaked during the 1996 draft that Kobe wouldn’t sign with the Nets, because that leak was enough to scare off Calipari from drafting Kobe and instead taking Kerry Kittles. Had they taken Kobe, the Knicks might have been forced to change ownership a long time ago.

The Clippers are harmless relatively to the Lakers. And I disagree about just how good the current Clippers roster is-Kawhi might be my favorite player in the league, but I’m not going to sit here and lie and tell you Kawhi by himself vaults the Clippers into contention. There is truth to the rumors that Kawhi didn’t want to go there by himself. I wouldn’t if I was him.

I guarantee, if the Clippers do not sign Kawhi, they will not have a 48 win season and will miss the playoffs entirely. They played over their heads last year.

Anyone against throwing a vet min at Cousins? I could go for it tbh.

tbh I would even give Cousins the room exception at 4.7 mill. I felt he was improving and getting back into shape before his injury in the first round of the playoffs.

I see the parallel, but I’ve seen it reported Nets would have never happened without KDs injury and less important to the decision, Kyrie being on ROC Nation.

KD being out a season gave Kyrie a bit more leverage in regards to who was going to follow who.

I don’t recall this coming from someone official, but that scenario makes sense to me as what could have played out. I more or less think the Nets got really lucky and had nothing to do with the recruiting other than giving them both anything they asked for like everyone else would have.

Clippers don’t really have anything going for them as far as I know that would help them outside of basketball like Kyrie being on ROC.

Honestly I would take any of these guys, and as many of them as we could sign, with Parker and Rondo being at the bottom of the list.

I agree with you on the Kawhi not throwing them into contention thing...I just think it’s a much different year with all these roster moves and teams being able to study film on Toronto’s 1 year takeover led by Kawhi.

If there’s someone who could do it again it’s him, but I don’t see it with the Clippers at all.

This articles good but I don’t think that it changes much with him. He would have to have known from day 1 he will make astronomically more in LA from endorsements alone even if Canada was tax free. Those endorsements are what will exist past his retirement.
