Or the fact that Sirron used to travel in Asia and used Kurt Rambis as one of his many burner accounts
Wow. I spent most of the late afternoon and evening reading and digesting this entire thread while at the office today. As a San Diego St alum, (and naturally a Kawhi Leonard fan in general), I would really love it if he ended up with the Lakers. I started High School in year 1 of Shaq-Kobe (1996-1997), and Graduated Law school in Kawhi’s second year at SDSU (2010-2011). Since the summer of 2017, when I would talk Lakers with friends whose basketball opinions I respected, the only Star players I wanted us targeting were LB, AD, and Kawhi. The reason being, as a fan of basketball, I find these three players to have individual talents that mesh well together on both sides of the ball, even if LeBron’s defense has declined the last few years. LeBron as a facilitator on offense will really showcase the finishing skills of AD, and enable Kawhi to showcase just how fun to watch he is off the ball, as he is with the ball. I found this board after twitter posted shared the reddit/subreddit coverage of @Mr. Rambis analysis in this thread. Prior to coming over here, I’ve mainly lurked at Silver Screen & Roll. That being said, I have a question for @Mr. Rambis, given that the people in Lakers Basketball Operations are all in on team Kawhi, is the basketball pitch to KL going to be selling him on how he can be the 1a guy on offense and how with both him and AD on board, this team has chance to be really special, especially defensively. If it’s about being the best that you can be and winning championships, I can’t think of two better teammates to have than LeBron and Anthony Davis. He’s not coming into the same uncertain situation that LeBron walked into last year, even if the remaining role players will need to be figured out. The reason I say the above, is because I thik, and maybe I’m in the minority, that for Kawhi, while the AEG-New Balance Pitch is very important,I think the basketball pitch can’t be forgotten as well, especially how winning in LA will further enhance his career legacy even beyond winning in Toronto. I mean just look at Staples Center, outside, the great ones, are memorialized in Bronze, and inside the arena, their jerseys and championship banners hang from the rafters. Unlike in San Antonio where he’s seen as being a product of Pops and carried by Duncan Parker and Ginobili even in the 2014 Finals, for example, if he signs long term with the Lakers, wins multiple rings and plays at the high level that he’s been playing at, he’ll likely get the same treatment as Laker Greats before him. Is this something, someone like Kobe would’ve directly pitched to Kawhi when they workout out together? Or would this be something the front office will pitch to him when they meet with him?
Welcome!! Nice post, and good to have you on board @MambaMentality. We've been getting a tone of new people from those Reddit threads and so far everyone's been really great! I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of new member posts
Just invite him into ur heart as your master, and you will always have him nearby. -- Danny Ainge (Probably)
We don’t have to talk about this here and kill this post with random stuff, but who else from CL is gone on here? Like I remember most of us transitioned to here from CL, but I’ve heard a few people self-banned because of LeBron and stuff like that?
Take that discussion here: http://lakersball.com/threads/welcome-to-lakersball-com.59/page-38#post-307114
I joined CL in 2004, I believe, right around the time we got dismantled by the Pistons in the Finals. I used to post pretty regularly over there, and was glad this site was created when CL went under. It's been a long time, and I read LB almost every day (even though I don't post), but all this CL nostalgia prompted me to actually log in and say hi. This thread has been great to follow during the whole AD process. Maybe I'll try to chime in from time to time. Carry on, everyone... *Edit* Sorry for posting another CL nostalgia comment here. I apparently can't read.
He's stated several times that people in media have better connections than he has, and if it's big news they'll probably hear about it before he does. His main insight is into the type of stuff the business side talks about and how many of them view things.
Wonder if @Mr. Rambis shows up before/during free agency. Know he took a trip a week ago but you know, could be code for "I've been made and escaping the country."
He will show up after everyone has verbally agreed to terms and pass them on as his own in some vague, generalized soliloquy.
