As I posted above, the other thing about this solution is that it can go to a 4th team (or 5th) as well, as long as the Pelicans or Hawks agree to it to be part of the trade, so the aggregate outgoing contracts are still within the parameters of the initial trade.

Wagner still has value, Bonga's contract may require giving up a future 2nd, and Jones is a throw in that can be waived because he's non-guaranteed.

Also, I'm gonna have to assume this part of the deal will be agreed upon before going into Free Agency, otherwise, we wouldn't have the money to give these max players.

As long as we get to keep Caruso, I’m good with that.

So y'all gonna start listening to a cbag fan over the cap thread we have here that had that info for a minute. Cool story.

You cut me deep @KareemtheGreat33 with this one. You can't even claim tl;dr so don't even try to backpedal. You on the list...I'll make sure sirron pays you a visit soon.

I had no idea so many of y'all had me on ignore tho. I guess it's meaningless to even make this comment cause yall won't see it. In that case I guess I can say whatever I want.

Y'all can bite my big, plump, "shake what my mamma gave me" a...

Anyways, other than a cbag fan posting this...the only other thing wrong with what they said is the roster spot issue/imbalance doesn't really impact this trade cause it will happen in the off-season where roster spots remain fluid and don't need to meet the 15 roster capacity mandate till the season starts.

Another thing is that at Lakers.com and the Lakers official twitter, there's plenty on the THT trade, yet nothing on AD.
    https://www.nba.com/lakers/releases/draft19-acquire-horton-tucker?ls=recent_news

It's cause as a stand alone deal, the THT trade has no bearing on our cap space. Till signed, his player rights impact our cap as a rookie min caphold in the amount of 900k, which is equivalent to a single incomplete roster charge. So as it stands, that trade can be announced as official. So too can the AD trade if he's partially taken into our cap space...but that trade has not been announced by the Lakers (.com, Twitter or otherwise). There's obviously a reason for it.

Recall draft pressers for Zo, Kuz, Hart & TB as well as Moe and Svi were conducted by Mag/Rob before free agency in the last 2 summers. Meanwhile Bonga was not introduced since the deal became official and was announced on July 6th after the FA moratorium.
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nba.com/amp/lakers/releases/180706bonga-trade-philadelphia

We can still construct a multi-team AD trade with Orlando involved (via THT) or with ATL (via 4th pick), but unless the FO operates differently now (ie dodging the media) it's peculiar that an individual THT intro presser has not been scheduled yet. Maybe when the AD trade becomes official, both those Klutch guys can meet the LA media together. Or they can be like big brother Bron and ghost the intro presser route altogether. One thing is for sure, Kcp didn't take that route (#manna), so it's not a Klutch thing.

Bottomline: we are operating in a manner that implies we want to hold onto our cap space...but I do think the multiteamer route was not our preferred route since it will most likely cost us more assets (plus AD won't get his full trade kicker). The only benefit is that #LAD becomes official a month sooner and as the cbag cap poster implied, the deal wouldn't really fall apart if we waited till August to complete the deal cause the Pels have now looped in assets they don't currently control in the 4th pick with ATL and ATL has done the same in dealing the 17th to the Pels which loops in BK. Too many teams invested for this thing to fall apart now.

we've got cash to add. there are a lot of teams with space. pretty sure we can get wagner/jones/bonga involved with multiple teams if need be. may be moot if no max, anyway.

What is Toronto's financial situation, age of key players, contracts coming due, any penalty tax, etc looking like going forward that KL can feel confident he can beat the West in the immediate future? If he's looking at a 1 plus 1 deal this year?

They're cash strapped for now tied to Marc Gasol, Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka, and Kawhi Leonard, but most of their contracts expire in the summer of 2020 so a 2+1 deal makes a lot of sense for Kawhi in Toronto. See how they rebuild in 2020 and you can leave if it doesn't suit you or take the +1 and be a FA in 2022 summer with 10 years of experience.

Just got to give you a hard time bro. Your hard work in cap scenarios is much appreciated though, and I’d probably feel a bit slighted myself if I saw that reaction. #realtalk

Ben brings up a good point, if we felt like JJ/Wagner/Bonga were still going to be here or if we didn't already have a plan, we wouldn't have already filled our Summer League roster to 12-13 players as it stands right now.

I think this is also accurate from Ramona earlier today where she said that LAL will trade Wagner/JJ/Bonga only if one of Kawhi/Kyrie and maybe Jimmy is coming. Otherwise, they may keep them because of their low salaries to help fill out the later roster spots.

To be honest, I think those three are gone regardless. With the team as it is now, I'd rather have the extra money than those kids. I think for where we're at now, their production can probably be filled by minimum vets that are more capable of contributing.

Maybe afraid if they do keep them of more summer league injuries or wear and tear on at least Wagner, maybe Bongo and Jones too, but those guys need the work. Just don't think NO was going to cooperate to help the Lakers get the 3rd max slot available to add insult to their injury. So Pelinka had to go the 2nd route.

true, that could happen. But do we think anywhere between 5-7 guys are going to take vet min deals to be on our team. That's a lot of roster spots to fill up on the team even if we use the roughly 24 million cap space (assuming AD takes trade kicker + we can't include our 3 youngsters in a deal) + the 4.8 room exception to get more than 2-3 players

I am 100% sure we could fill out the roster with vet minimums; guys that are capable of contributing even.

But the thing is: let's say Danny Green, Darren Collison, and JJ Reddick all cost 10m dollars. Wouldn't you prefer to have those three guys + veteran minimums + the Room Exception than Danny Green and Darren Collison and the three kids with the Room Exception?

Keep JJ, cause we won't have to include him in the deal. After we sign Kawhi for 32m, we'll have 900k of cap open up cause one incomplete roster charge comes off the books and then trade Zo/Bi/Hart/Moe/Bonga for AD by taking 900k of his base salary into that space. So the deal works out with AD even getting 700k of his kicker if either JJ or Bonga are not involved. And since both their contracts are the same, we have that choice...so if it were up to me, JJ should stick.

    Small sample size but...

Well so dumping those contracts to keep a max slot will still require AD to waive his kicker. I’m not sure if AD does that for a non-max guy, in which case I’m fine with Wagner keeping a roster spot.

That's a very good point. I'd hope AD would do it, but I also understand why he wouldn't.
