If the NBA was ever going to wrest control away from a team for incompetence of management, they would have gone after the Hornets, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Clippers (before Sterling incidents,) Nets and Wizards long ago.

So either he becomes trade fodder in an AD trade or he stays and the Knicks have room for 2 30% max guys.

The scenario for a fully maxed out KD + another 30% max guy (like Ky) is still possible since the Knicks have 3 other guys with non-guaranteed deals.

Or @fabfourlakers , no offense to him, but since entirely possible ..... no sources period and pulled from his nether region for entertainment's sake. The phrasing too is odd IMO. Thumbs up for the entertainment I guess if this is the case. To a degree.

@karacha lakersfan2 was talking about the Twitter user, not Mr. Rambis. At least that's how I read it.

And to stay on topic, I know y'all want this saga to be over, but while we hold onto a max spot, you gotta see it through before making rash decisions in sacrificing it.

A deal could eventually be off the table, but I think Griff knows better. Get to an agreement...draft the pick the Pels want and aggregate that salary in a month to spare some of our kiddies. Meanwhile, go get a max guy or die trying.

That's the best route to take. Be patient and even if a trade gets agreed upon, the earliest it becomes official is July 6th, but at the expense of our cap space.

I'm looking for an official August press release. I know it's greedy...but it's the best way.

My problem isn’t the greed involved in what waiting until August to make the trade official would entail.

    My problem is the risk.

We’ve been screwed over by a trade to get a superstar from New Orleans in the past before it was made official, in just a few hours. So leaving a trade in flux for a month worries me.

If we do get a max player before AD trade is official, we’d be in the process of becoming easily the best super team in the league. I could definitely see other teams coming out of the woodworks with increased offers to the Pelicans to try and get them to abandon the trade with us. Klutch would also no longer have the threat of us signing AD in 2020 because we’d have just used our cap room on the other max guy.

Sure Griffin has a decent reputation, but we don’t really know how far that will go especially when the Pelican’s petty ownership will be involved.

Honestly, after the developments with GSW, I am ok with a strong Plan B that involves the kids- sign Butler, sign some shooters, grab a couple of defensive minded bigs and roll. That roster, properly constructed, will be a contender in the now wide open WC. The problem with Plan B is our FO isnt adept enough to make it happen.

All good points and I'm sure the Klay/KD injuries will leave some free agents gun shy... But nearly all of this summer's 30%max free agents are eligible for 35% maxes next summer. They sign a 1+1 deal and can opt out next summer, especially if things don't work out with Bron. But you're right, a max FA in the bag on a multi-year commitment before an AD trade sacrifices our FAAD2020 leverage bid.

But I think this timeline reported by Woj is kinda overblown anyways and you even had Griff dispute it by saying there is no "shotclock" to this trade. Also here's what sources told the Boston Globe:

Anyways, I would take the patient route and try to get Griff to agree in principle.

For example, the Nets-ATL trade isn't official yet and with the KD injury, the Nets can call off the trade, but that would really be a bad look for all that are in involved.

I mean, If I were Griff I’d wait for all possible offers too. Maybe someone gets desperate and offers the table.

Patience, we have the best package. If they take a better package, so be it. If they take a lower package, sucks for them. We can still sign a free agent and have our kids and #4.

    OK ... define jack squat.

If Lebron plays pretty much the whole last season, Ball and Ingram dont get hurt last year, how many more games do we win? I think we at least would have been able to grab the 8th seed.

Now roll the clock forward to the 19/20 season, add Butler, some shooters, an emphaisis on defense and a year more of experience for the kids + weakened Warriors, Rockets teams. The likelihood of winning into the low/ mid 50's is there, which gets us into the 3 or 4 seed range. Probably not a c-ship level roster (unless one of the kids has a huge breakout) but competitive and entertaining. Is that jack squat enough?

Ball and Ingram are mentally weak players at the moment. You have your primary ball handler who is great on defense and decision making but is afraid to be aggressive because he is mentally weak at the line. I have never seen a guard in my entire NBA watching life hit 45% from the line. He will et so badly exposed in the playoffs it would make everyone's head spin. Ingram doesn't want to be in LA and the trade rumors right now only add to it even more. Kuzma is the only one who rolls with the flow.

Jimmy Butler is better off staying in Philly if he is to play with young guys. They were one lucky shot from beating the Raptors and they aren't far off despite the media always wanting to dismantle teams after they lose in the playoffs.

Lebron is on his way down. He could be done next year. We don't know. Lakers need to get Two superstars this year and let Lebron play 3rd guy so they can make it to the end to win it all.

People claim Scoop is a fraud (but actually, I recall he was the first to break something legit back at the deadline; maybe the Bullock trade)?

But just now the apparent insider on the Lakers subreddit has reported the same exact trade. He’s not saying it’s a done deal, just the current offer being discussed.

New deal being discussed with Chicago would allow us to keep Ingram.

This guy broke the last trade offer before Woj and Stein.
