From Stein this morning. Honestly, I can't see them passing up our offer either way if they don't find someone to take the pick, I think they'll just use it in the draft and have us draft whoever they want. I hope it's not a deal breaker.

I'm *almost* to the point where we walk and tell Griff to enjoy Kevin Knox or Jaylen Brown.

Of course Rob was involved in the deadline talks! He's the Lakers GM! And yes, I'm well aware of his shenanigans with Eric Gordon. But one bad faith negotiation 7 years back doesn't mean that the GM of a team is forbidden from negotiating on the team's behalf. If that were the case, a lot of general managers and agents would never be speaking to each other again! And regardless, I do have confirmation Pelinka was involved in the February talks.

I have no inherent dislike of Pelinka, but I've seen the deals he's negotiated as Lakers GM. He's definitely too trigger happy in most cases.

Great find! But sadly, it's old news. I heard about this Wednesday morning and that means this roadblock probably happened even earlier. The Lakers or Pelicans just have to find that 3rd team who will give up a decent asset for the pick, at the very least.

    Ty Lue negotiations say hi.

I want Rob to succeed like the next Laker fan does cause now he is essentially "the" guy... he's our guy. But let's not act like the guy hasn't taken missteps.

If Magic was big picture, Rob was the cap guy. I didn't mind the DLo trade, but some of y'all did. Jules walked for nothing. Zu was traded without at least a 2nd rounder coming back to us to replace the one we lost in the Bullock trade. Magic may have valued the MUD 1yr stopgap squad, but maybe the cap guy is the one negotiated contracts that paid Rondo/KCP/Lance 25m of our capspace.

I will give Rob big ups tho in getting Deng to give back a substantial amount in a buyout.

Magic's big picture was shedding MozDeng to bring 2max and Bron gets us half way there. The plan was realized, but the way we went about getting there is somewhat controversial and out of Magic and Rob, who's the cap guy?

Do you see that as a roadblock to a trade before the deadline? Or do you think that the Pels would settle for using the 4th pick themselves if they can't get anything for it and take the rest of our assets (BI, Lonzo, Hart)?

if an allstar can be had for half our offer, i'd consider cutting NO out, partly out of spite! thanks for shopping our package for us, though, buddy.

if not, btw, why are talks ongoing? you can't tell me it's taking this long to find out nobody wants to give up any value for the #4.

It was a combination of both. Rob's desperation and bidding against himself led to Magic becoming involved later and ultimately making those leaked offers.

@lavar-is-trash it's hard to say. In theory, the Pelicans have little leverage and shouldn't be in a position to make such demands. But the fact that Griffin is orchestrating all these antics tells me that the tables have turned and the Lakers are trying to get something done. I'd imagine a deal gets done relatively soon with a 3rd team, but that's very unstable and can fall apart at any moment.

Things are quiet right now on my end too, so I'm suspicious that either the 3rd team they were working with yesterday has either pulled out, or that they're making some serious headway. Biz guys don't know much right now either. Likely one of two extremes...

That's all for now. I'll catch everyone later today.

we shouldn't need a third team. just make sure our offer tops ny's, then wait it out, imo. these picks lose value really quickly in a week.

This is why i ask bc you said Dells wouldn't talk to Pelinka. "Wanted to work more with Magic." Then how is it Rob's desperation and bidding against himself if Demps didn't want to talk to Pelinka and wanted to deal with Magic. Do you have any juicy details about Rob leaving messages to Demps and making offers without talking to Demps? I don't know about you, but if Demps preferred to talk to Magic...then it's pretty logical to assume that Magic was much more "friendly" with the Lakers' assets with regards to giving them away?

I posted about WAS being the third team yesterday, even at the trade deadline, but that was before we got the #4 too.

BI + the #4 might land Beal.

NOLA gets Beal, Kuz, #9, 2021 LA 1st

    LA gets AD.

    Work?

The true test is right now for Rob I can care less what has happened in the last; we are here with enough assets to get a deal done, IMO.

If this doesn't get completed, the he failed his first major test. If he's successful, then I'll give him credit despite what is going out (I know most people will call it getting fleeced) because he is bringing in a top 5 player

washington doesn't have a gm in place, right? i'll be really annoyed if talks got this far for NO to basically throw out something impossible.

beal's worth almost as much as davis in trade now (he's under contract for more than one year and hasn't demanded a trade).

if NO doesn't want young guys, they better call portland and hope rich paul doesn't show up at portland's gm's house with a bat.
