How does a FO get ahead of the Luke sexual abuse allegations (the timeline to all that is for a whole other discussion) to then turn around and force their coaching candidates to hire Kidd? Wild! Why is the FO making this so hard? Look at the Pels dysfunction and make this right. They went from dumba** leaky Demps to Griff (who was a GM with an established CBA acumen) who chose to retain Gentry, get the Phx head trainer and chose his own GM to handle the more day to day tasks. Just like them, we lucked into a top pick...unlike them, we are reveling in dumb luck and familiarity, rather than changing the luck narrative by making smart strategic decisions. Anyways, I do like Vogel and I'm happy he isn't going to go with that gimmicky switch everything defense. However, I do hope we can get better x&os offensively, which is something he personally has struggled with.
I can’t listen to Rob speak. Every time he started speaking I skipped ahead to when Vogel started talking again. Maybe Rob turns into a good GM in time, but I can’t listen to the guy, he’s as boring as Mitch in his own special way.
Oh boy can't wait. Just getting ready to watch. Then again Magic just cracked him in the head with a Dodger bat as payback for his backstabbing. Only hours earlier and you'd expect him to be hard to listen to with his dome scrambled. Probably even forgot a parable to welcome Vogel?
Oh lord I'm only 1 minute into it and already missing Magic making this announcement with his enthusiasm. Rob not bad as a role player at the mic when Magic would need a break. Of course .... if Magic really wanted Ty Lue then he would have to fake the enthusiasm. OK back now to hear Vogel.
Stop again. Anywhere around 7:25 in. Good news / bad news for me and both are strategic. I like Vogel already since have never heard him interviewed. Has some charisma and talent to talk to L.A. press. A lot of why I liked Luke and the core values preached about teamwork. Not a drop off there so far and we know he has been to the conference finals twice so not coming in as a rookie. Like what I'm hearing just as I get to Jim Hill's first question about what it means to Frank and his response. Bad news. If LeBron really gave a s*** about Vogel he would be at least looking at him and trying to get a fair measure of the man rather than being absorbed on his phone.
12:45 in important question asked about how Frank will approach having to coach young and developing talent as we have at same time as coaching exiting proven upper level talent (paraphrasing). While starting his answer a camera cutaway to LeBron now paying attention. In fairness to my take above the cutaway to Bron on his phone was right while Vogel answering what it meant to him and his family to be out here. Could have been a strategic break in him watching the presser and say getting a text from Kawhi saying, Homie ... win or lose here ... Ima Laker next year.
16:40 in Rob handling the inevitable question coming from when Magic clubbed him with the 36" bat this morning about how does he now deal with that description of him put out there. And doing well with it under the circumstances. Not unimpressed with how Rob handling his end of the presser under difficult circumstances. He didn't know to what level Magic would paint him this morning. OK back to conference .....
25:25 .... another important factor with Vogel I notice. Has great teeth, a warm smile and seems like a positive guy.
It's got to be cool for him kind of coming full circle with this team when he was an advanced scout for the Lakers early in his young professional career and then to think one day he would be HC.
No not really his beard is OK. Already mentioned that was one of my first hard criteria .... beard or no beard. All in all I think both Frank and Rob handled that well .... considering the timing of what Magic did this morning. I will be back to glass half full guy until proven wrong again for a real reason. Last year the injuries and suspensions f***** us.
Definitely. And LOL the comments after that clip cracking on Plaschke. Everyone still views him as a jerk.
Overall a good day for Vogel who looked like he was ready to meet the challenge of coaching Us. Ready to see what the rest of his staff will look like.
