He can always go to China, right? I bet he can easily get 7-10mil a season there.

Wiz are already paying the worst contract in the league to Wall:

    2019/20 $38,150,000
    2020/21 $41,202,000
    2021/22 $44,254,000
    2022/23 $47,306,000

    Y.I.K.E.S.

I don't see how they can afford to offer Beal the supermax even if they were able to (not sure if the rules permit more than one supermax on one team).

Thats a reasonable approach in a vacuum. Problem is Magic already offered essentially the entire roster. My experience in negotiations is that once expectations are set on one side, its hard to back away from those in the future. Magic offered too much, NOP turned it down, it killed team chemistry. AD likley goes elsewhere now and for less.

    Crap. You're right Vash.

Ugh in that case..we're stuck with AD...and you know what? The Pelicans better hope we don't pull out because if we do....guess what the C Bags, Knicks and Clippers are going to do? They're going to lowball the s*** out of them. Pelicans need us to stay in the AD talks to keep any "leverage" they think they have.

@Lakerman JSJ the Wiz are permitted to offer the supermax and Beal is eligible to accept it if he makes an All-nba team. The question then becomes, if its offered and if it is, then will Beal accept. Leverage in any trade talks is dependent on that. If the Wiz don't offer it, Beal is obviously on the trade table. If Beal declines the offer, he's obviously on his way out and needs to be traded. So no reason to advance trade talks with the Wiz till that's determined cause we can only gain leverage in trade talks if we wait. Btw, a team can have up to 4 designated players on their roster...2 rookies (0-4 years) and 2 vets (5-9 years). You can't trade for 2 designated supermax eligible players tho and have them on the team at the same time (see Boston limited in trading for AD this year with a designated Kyrie contract on their books).

@ProzacViagra Magic stated the same deal would not be on the table if the Pels decided to hold off and reengage this summer. Let's see if Rob honors that promise... And technically the same package isn't available anymore cause Zu, 'Do, Kcp can't be part of the deal anymore. Also there's a new FO to engage trade talks with this summer. Griff ain't going to use Demps standards to complete a deal. Heck Benson, their owner, can't use the same standards cause Nawlins got equally (and appropriately) scrutinized by the media for operating in bad faith. The best package is going to win out and of course Klutch can help dictate the destination without absolutely strongarming Griff like they did Demps.

@OmarE I totally agree with your position on this. There are options we could go in...but only after we exhaust the possibilities of a Kawhi/AD scenario.

Has anyone thought of the potential best friend recruitment?

Kyrie and KD are best friends. And they both actually like LeBron. What if KD and Kyrie ask for a opt in and trade? Is this possible while keeping some of the core???

    Kyrie
    Bag of chips
    LeBron
    Durant
    Robert Sacre

Durant wants his own team. It will be even worse if the Warriors go on to win it this year without him. The "who's team is it" has gotten to him so much he has turned into a child. He needs to leave GS.

What do you think our offer would be for Beal? I wouldn't gut the roster for him

However, if there can be s reasonable deal made, I'd do it.

And yes, this is after we exhausted all other possibilities; agree with you there

We’re sick of the Pelicans. Period. And you can slide other names in there for Beal. That’s fine.

My bottom line is that I’m not interested in another round of us groveling (or even appearing to be groveling) with the Pelicans. Make a fair offer to them and keep it moving. There are other players we can pursue.

And as we’ve discussed a few times, I don’t think we can play the cap space game again. We need to build a team. You get good guys in here and we can move them later if we have to IF someone is actually ready to sign on the dotted line.

Yeah I don't mean to be that guy but it's embarrassing when you are so desperate for a Lakers quick fix and just lose your mind.

@LaVarBallsDad after exhausting our cap on a 30%max player, we got 2 options if we're going to trade for a 25%max player like AD or Beal:
    1) we can either trade the unsigned pick/player rights and use the vacated 7.1m caphold to partially absorb AD/Beal
    OR
    2) sign our 4th pick and aggregate that 7.1m with other outgoing salary to complete a trade after 30 days (see Wiggins for Love trade).

Under the 1st scenario the benefit is an immediate trade, but we need to send out 15.9m in salary; under the 2nd scenario you have to wait a month, but the benefit is other than the 7.1m signed 4th pick, we only have to send 14.5m. So under the 2nd scenario, we can essentially spare a youngn like Bonga or Jones.

All that said, I would hesitantly give up the aggregated 16m of Zo & BI to bring in AD if push comes to shove. But I wouldn't do it for Beal. Let's say it's BI heading out as the principle for Beal (which I completely disagree with) then we would have to add 7.3m in addition to the signed 4th pick, which means Moe, Kuz, Hart, and either Bonga or Jones has to be involved.

If Zo is the principle heading out to spare BI, then at least we can spare Kuz or Hart while sending the rest of the youngns out.

So my preferred route for Beal (as a contingency) would be waiting a month and sending the signed 4th, Zo, Moe, Hart, Bonga and Jones and spare BI and Kuz in the process.

    Hope that answers your question.

@ElginTheGreat trust me I just want the AD thing to go through so we can start building the team accordingly and I'm sick of all the posturing and leverage plays, but AD is worth that headache for me. Also we're dealing with an entirely different FO and Griff will be much more professional about this and will give Benson the proper advice in going about this. At least that is my hope.

    Hi guys,
I poked around a bit today after being so excited from the lottery and have a couple of tidbits to share

    1. Griffin leaked the whole bit (about the Pelicans not changing their stance on trading Davis to the Lakers) to Windhorst to appease Pelicans ownership. Windhorst has no Laker sources so folks are fairly confident it came from Griffin who Windhorst is closer to. Pelinka and Griffin have had very initial discussions around this and there's interest on the Pelicans end but no deal will be made for a while. And it's not a done deal to the Lakers. Griffin will take what he feels is the best offer, but he's not holding a grudge. Zach Lowe's report from today is correct, but I was not able to figure out who his source is. Pelicans ownership does not like the Lakers though, especially after how they handled the deadline talks, so the leak was made for optics purposes because of those specific sentiments. I asked about how the Lakers might handle a Davis trade along with signing Kawhi - but AEG does not have that level of visibility into the front office with regards to cap room tactics. It's more about who they get for marketing reasons. Pelinka is supposedly a CBA expert, though, according to some I work with.

    2. There was interest on the Beal front from the Lakers side. Lakers had a conversation around the deadline about him, once the Davis situation was clearly a no-go. But the Wizards were not yet ready to rebuild and blow it up. They are scared of the public backlash and also have a minor amount of faith a healthy team can do well. Their goal isn't a contender but a team that can make East rd 2, given past results. No convos have been had recently, but I expect Pelinka will make a call. After seeing how top 4 heavy the East is, the Wizards may have a change of heart (my personal thoughts).

    3. As of now, AEG's feelings are that Lakers will trade the pick. They have asked regarding marketing/digital promotions around the pick ala Lonzo, Ingram - but Jeanie said to hold off. Didn't happen in any previous draft. Of course value has to be right.

    4. Rambis has been more successful in gaining influence in the front office, even after his coaching hiring blunders. He's not at president level's of power yet yet, but rising, unlike what I said before. Look for him to be pretty involved with the draft and what the Lakers do with this pick (i.e. determining if value in > value out).

    Best,
    Mr. Rambis

I'm totally fine with dealing signed 4th/Zo/Moe/Hart/Bonga/Jones for Beal and hanging onto BI and Kuz in the process...sign Kyrie or Kawhi (likely Kyrie) prior to this, get Cousins on MLE (or minimum deal?), get Deandre, get wes matthews, get a bunch of vets to roll with us and we'll roll out:

    Cousins
    LeBron
    Ingram
    Beal
    Kyrie

    Bench:
    DJ
    Kuzma
    Wes Matthews
    Caruso

Yep, I'd take that team any day of the week and twice on Sundays
