Wake me up when an article says Maginka told Luke to play lineups that didn’t have at least one of LeBron, Ingram, or Kuz on the floor in must win games.
I figured him and Pelinka weren’t on good terms. Again, I expect Pelinka to get shuffled somewhere else and a more seasoned guy being brought in.
Wonder if Jeanie is going to keep Luke around.... if he survives all this, please hire better assistants. Kthxbye
I would agree if I didn’t think whoever gets brought in is a LeBron puppet. If Jeanie doesn’t do a proper search to replace these people LeBron becomes the most powerful guy in Staples *shudder*
If this is true, it’s the final straw and Luke’s gotta go too. He’s a nice guy, relates to players well, but his X’s and O’s aren’t anything special, and refusing to add to a pretty weak (maybe even pathetic) coaching staff of your buddies is arrogant and lame.
Refusing to hire anyone but your buddies? Sounds similar to a certain FO I know? Looking at you: Byron Scott, Luke Walton, Magic Johnson, Rob Pelinka...
Get Jerry West back and have Jerry delegate and consultant the next regime. Jerry is a free agent this summer, get his a** back home and let him structure this back to normalcy.
I think I’d rather go with LeBron’s guy than another year of Luke since he refuses to upgrade his staff.
Yeah I posted that before I saw the news about Luke not being willing to upgrade his staff. Inexcusable, get him out.
I think there’s more to it than that. Why would Luke not consider that? Doesn’t sound like him at all. My guess is something is twisted here.
I'll play Devil's Advocate. Luke just learned months ago that the FO were calling Jason Kidd behind his back to take his job this summer. During last summer, the Lakers FO gave him a bunch of journeymen who can't shoot without consulting him. They traded or let go players he liked and wanted to keep like D-Lo, Randle, Lopez, etc, also without his input. And now they want to tell him to change his assistants? I don't blame him for saying no. Unlike the FO, his assistants at least have his back. Fire Pelinka. Bring in a new GM and President. If they want to keep Luke, then offer Luke input on drafts, FA aquisitions, and trades in exchange for bringing in more experienced coaching assistants. Key word is "input". Luke doesn't decide who is brought in or who leaves. But he at least is given a chance to give his opinion and point of view on these matters.
