i don't think this season is like 2005 at all

this team is far better than the 05 team and its star player is past his prime. 2005 was kobe in his prime, lamar/butler who both averaged 15 a game, and a bunch of scrubs.

let's be honest. everyone (including us) overestimated this team from the start simply because of lebron. we all forgot that lebron+a few 2nd/3rd year guys+scrappy vets isn't enough to get the job done in the west. sure, i think this team absolutely should be better than they've been but we forgot just how strong the west is. the whole "lebron carries the team" thing works in the east but not in the west

yeah, very little new material, either.

i agree that his leadership has SUCKED in the face of disappointment, but i'm not sure this article added much to the conversation.

It’s going to taint him NOW? He was already tainted.

I just wish someone would have warned us about how bad things could end up being.

The real estate between one's balls and booty is a fitting verb to sum up what Lebron has done here.

Just to ride with JVG’s idea... let’s say a trade of LeBron to the clippers opens up 2 max cap spaces again this summer, PLUS it eliminates the clippers as an option for Kawhi (since he doesn’t want to play with LeBron).

So suddenly the Lakers have 2 max spots, plus we can extract some assets from the Clippers (multiple draft picks, Shai Alexander?) which will also weaken Klutch Sports’ ability to try to get AD to pair up with LeBron in Clipperland.

Suddenly the Lakers can offer even more picks and some young players to the Pelicans for AD. There won’t be as much resistance for Pelicans to do a deal with the Lakers because LeBron/Rich Paul won’t be seen as the ones masterminding a deal.

    - Trade Ingram, Kuzma + multiple picks for AD (get to keep Lonzo).
    - sign Kawhi
    - sign Jimmy Butler
    - sign hustle bigs who play defense like McGee, Faried or Robin Lopez for cheap.
    - sign some 3 point shooters for spacing (Bullock, Wes Matthews)
    - sign a competent backup PG who would be solid enough to start when Lonzo misses 30 games (Pat Beverly... maybe we can get him as part of a LeBron trade lol).

Your lineup could be something like:

    Ball/Beverly
    Butler/Hart/Matthews
    Kawhi/Bullock
    AD/Faried/Wagner
    McGee/Lopez

That could give the all defense team a run for its money

The hope would be Jerry West does this and falls for the same fools gold Magic did... by falling for the narrative of “we get a top 3 player in the game for a role player or two and a few picks?”

The Lakers will definitely alienate Klutch clients moving forward as much as we have for Aaron Mintz clients, but at least in AD’s case if we trade for him, he won’t have a choice and the optics would be terrible for AD/Klutch if he got traded to a team with Kawhi and Butler... and decides to jump ship to the Clippers a year later to play with 36 year old lebron

So signing Bron was dumb move and we should still wait for a "star" to grant us a meeting? OK... no wonder Vasashi snapped...

I just thought the article was an interesting read. People in the comments were joking the anonymous exec is Magic, it was funny stuff. I can’t find the tweet anymore as it was like a week ago, but someone called out Jeanie on her “fake news” thing and said she can’t say stuff like that when she’s been an “anonymous source” like a million times, which I also thought was interesting.

I agree with the idea in theory, but we’re not trading LeBron. If we had some guarantee that Kawhi would sign here if we traded LeBron, I’d do it, but I don’t know, if we did it and no one signed here we’d be starting over. I don’t think it would necessarily mean we couldn’t trade for AD or that he wouldn’t sign here long term in 2020, but it’s possible it could hurt our case if Rich Paul does control him. I do think there’s probably a deal with the Clippers that benefits both parties though, we get nice pieces, cap space to go after Kawhi, Durant, Kyrie, etc, and draft picks to trade for AD, LeBron gets to stay in LA for his Hollywood stuff and move on from this horribly failed Lakers experiment. It’ll never happen though, we’ll just have to hope LeBron can stay healthy next year, and that we somehow lure a star here and/or trade for AD. If we get AD, at least we can rebuild with him once LeBron’s wheels fall off.

So we are basically trading LeBron for Jimmy Butler? Because we can do all the other things with LBJ.

The Lakers trading LeBron after one season would be a horrific move in the eyes of the players. One lost season and you trade away HIM? Horrible suggestion. This is the bed we made. Gotta see what happens now.
