Why the hell do you start a guy that you just got? We were lucky Kuz was on fire in the first or else this game would have been over in the first instead of the 3rd.
It’s like he follows some high school coaching handbook for substitutions and other basic things that in the NBA actually require strategy/thinking in the moment. He doesn’t learn from his mistakes, and that is alarming. I think he’s gone this offseason, and the only reason he hasn’t been fired yet this season is having Jeanie’s support and the Lakers maybe not seeing his replacement available at this time. Hopefully anyway on that last part, I don’t want Mark Jackson or Jason Kidd here.
Do not understand Luke's rotations and substitution patterns. Aside from the blunder of having James, Ingram and Kuzma on the bench at the same time for extended periods today, Luke wants to tinker with his player options and then gets stuck on his gameplan rotations. We are not Golden State, we are currently out of a playoff spot. Shorten your rotations (see Pat Riley) and have one of LeBron, Brandon, or Rondo/Zo when he gets back, on the court at all times. Take advantage of youth and play them extended minutes (they are young!) to secure a playoff spot and hopefully get them a little rest toward the end on the regular season. A core of BI, Lebron, Kuzma, McGee, Chandler, Rondo, and Zo when he gets back along with whoever is up to banging down low (we have been getting killed by stout PFs and Centers down low all season... and we trade Zu?) and whoever has a hot hand beyond the arc. Come on Luke, you can do it.
benching rondo is out-thinking yourself, imo. i normally defend luke, as he has a tough road to hoe, but that was pretty lame. and i get why the thought might occur, but you don't act on that. especially if it's to install a brand new player in the starting unit. definitely scratching my head.
ok, i'm back. they give him a team full of neither stars nor shooters and wonder why they don't win more. FO is to blame for our shooting/offensive woes, imo. pretty much fully.
Tongue in cheek comment, sac n lac isnt a team full of stars n shooters, dont see them losing to teams like clev/nyk type
benching rondo for bullock is even more puzzling sure, bullock is the better shooter but rondo makes the offense so much better
We should have had them both on the floor at the same time... Rondo knows how to set-up shooters (see Kentavious-Pope).
This is my biggest criticism of Luke to be fair, his rotations are baffling and he still doesn't know his best line-up/bench rotation and we are 50+ games in. How are you meant to build an understanding between players when one game your starting, next game the bench, one game 40 mins next game 18 etc etc.
I’m basing this on assumptions, but I assumed they started Bullock over Rondo to have Lebron matchup with Simmons at the point guard spot. Lebron has the size to guard Simmons while Rondo does not...
You don't guard Simmons more than 10feet from the basket. Bron was mocking the kid and he still refused to shoot...
Looking at the box score, Simmons was 3-13 which is low for him, so apparently he did ok. The rest of the 76'er starters went off though. Lots of talent over there. Lebron should have been guarding two players if he was really trying SMH.
Either he fixes it, or brings in someone to help him fix it, but no way things can continue next year. That would seem to be absurd. Current Coaches with championships: Doc Rivers (1) Rick Carlisle (1) Tyronne Lue (1) Eric Spoelstra (2) Steve Kerr (3) Popovich (5) I only see one of those guys being available, and with having Lebron experience (Lue). Almost lost his health over it too. Not sure of the answer. For 30 teams, there are literally only 6 coaches with championship on their resume. I don't see that list changing this year either.
