The only way I see this working out if Kyrie says he wants out of Boston with or without AD this summer. Then we have a fighting chance to trade for him and possibly sign Kyrie too.

I get it to some degree too. These guys are paying 1 billion dollars for franchises in some cases. Players come and go, and you can't let the inmates run the asylum to some degree. They have their own interests at heart, but there has to be a balance of good business, loyalty, being player friendly, fan friendly, and turning a profit.

This is not an easy business to be in, and Lebron exerting his influence on player movement through his own agency ***allegedly*** while still being a player is basically the first time in sports history that it's ever happened. Of course people are upset. They don't have as much control as they want, think they have, or need. They've lost some leverage, and the only way to get it back appears to be acting like a d***.

Reports are he basically has already. Can't say it publicly or he'll get fined, and possibly banned from being traded here by Silver.

This Big Market teams vs Small Market teams is pure BS Code for Lakers vs. Long Term Butthurt teams (C Bags, Spurs, Mavs, etc.).

You never hear this stuff about the Clippers. Do they play in a small market? You never hear this stuff about the Knicks, the Nets, the Bulls or ANY other so called Big Market team.

Someone can check the numbers and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we could sign Boogie to a decent 2 year deal ($20M per?) to get his bird rights, and still make be able to maneuver and sign AD in 2020. We have plenty of options and the Pels need to understand that.

The worst culprit has been Boston and ESPN, the local bias.

How many times has Ainge shafted teams out of picks and one sided deals for KG, Ray Allen...etc. and NOBODY said a word. It's quite obvious the league has it out on us.

I can't wait until we finally overtake them in the number of banners, then they'll have NOTHING against us.

I mean, just look at it now. Woj has been out there just spewing nonsense about how "The Pelicans don't wanna deal with the Lakers right now" and "they should wait until summer for better deals" without ANY references! It's so freaking obvious.

Somehow, Kuz, Ingram, Ball, a 1st isn't better or at least equal than Tatum and Brown? Please.

Well said. This is just another way of small market teams complaining when they fail to build around their stars and lose them to bigger markets. Like you said, the fact LeBron is exerting his influence through his agent (who's basically in his pocket) to recruit other players, and the fact that it's working, is scary to other franchises.

The small market b******* is getting old though. They complained in '98 when the luxury tax came about. And according to Larry Coon, that actually backfired and made it tougher for small market teams to compete because they couldn't afford the tax. Then the last lockout came and they stopped the CP3 trade, hoping that the supermax and repeater tax would save them. And instead, you end up with Golden State - who just got a hell of a lot stronger thanks to, guess who, the Pelicans incompetence. And apparently nobody has a problem with that?

    Sheesh.

the current CBA is contructed on the basis is limiting the power of teams like the lakers and it's worked 100%

so these small market teams don't have anything to b*tch about for the time being

I did a quick search, and thought NO might be similar in size to San Antonio and we could throw out the whole small market crap because San Antonio has been wildly successful.

However, the reality is that there should NOT be a franchise in New Orleans. They don't have the population to support the team.

    San Antonio, TX

    New Orleans, LA

With that size population, you'd have to have rabid fans to support a team and make it financially viable. ESPECIALLY at today's ticket prices. No wonder the football staff doubles as the NBA training staff. There's more money in football most likely, but not enough money to run both organizations like a Class A outfit.

Players get it. Fans get it. Coaches get it. Even owners get it, but what are the supposed to do? There was a reason the NBA owned them for awhile. But when you have that much invested, you have to protect the investment or lose hundreds of millions of dollars.

AD is doing what is best for his career, and NO needs to make a trade that will benefit them the most so they can stay relevant in a difficult market. But anybody that they trade for from LA will look at their arena, training facility, training staff, and ownership with disdain when they've experienced so much better.

They lose in the end. They can't win. They won't win. All that's left is their pride and trying to maintain a positive balance sheet. Then this big turd fell from the sky and crushed their 2019, and it just started.

It's beautiful, and it will be fun watching it play out. That team needs to be moved to another market. Ex: Seattle Population 724,745 is almost double NO.

We (Lakers) should come up with some sort of a protest. Go on a strike of some sort. No interviews. No media access. Nba comes with a fine, you respond with one word answers, yes/no. Again... f*** THEM ALL.

The best way to get 3max players on our payroll is to use our cap this summer and then trade for AD... if that's the contingency, then what's the problem in waiting till the summer?

If they still don't trade with us, then we sitting on our kiddies and 2max players. But here's the beauty of it all... Outside our 2max guys, the entire roster in the summer of 2020 is non-guaranteed and BI is a RFA that we can renounce. If it's just Bron, 2ndmaxguy and Deng's dead 5m, we'll still have 28.5m in capspace... That's just enough for AD's final opt in option, and dude can Cp3 his way here and not lose money. Then play out the 2020/21 season and then when the summer of 2021 hits, he'll be eligible for a 35%max deal as a 10yr player. He would have only lost 7m if he got the 30% max for the 2020/21 season, but we're talking about a guy that's a walking endorsement and just spat on the supermax with Nawlins...again, its legacy, not currency with this dude. Our contingency isn't as bad as Boston's..

This summer, Moore and Hill become expiring deals for the Pels while Horford (if he opts in) becomes a 30m expiring with Hayward and Smart still having multiple years left on their deals. So if the Pels want to shed salary in an AD trade with Boston this summer, they'd be taking on more salary in Horford and taking on more years with Smart and Hayward. As a small market team, you're going to give up a star to only take on more salary??? Good luck selling that pitch.

Brown and Tatum aggregate to 14m and Boston would need roughly 7m more to match salaries with AD in a trade...so they would have to involve Smart's long term deal...Or convince Rozier to agree to a S&t. They can turn to Baynes to help with salary matching, but that assumes he opts in to a modest 5m deal this summer when there is money to be had on the open market.

And still with all that, we're assuming AD doesn't trigger his 15%trade kicker to a location that he doesn't desire to be traded to....in which case Boston would need closer to 11m in additional salary along with Brown/Tatum to get a deal done. And with the way the trade demand came out, you're possibly doing all this for a 1yr rental.

For Boston's superior package, they don't have the necessary contracts to grease this trade through this summer without Nawlins actually taking back more salary in it.

Now let's say AD isn't dealt to Boston... What's their contingency when Ky bounces? They don't have a max slot and aggregating Tatum/Brown+picks, only brings back a 20m+ star... How many of those are actually around the league at the moment? And if they exist, which team is sincerely willing to trade it?

Boston is f***ed and they know it. They horded these picks and now the player they did it for, intentionally iced them out with a trade demand now instead of the summer.

We'll be fine...Boston won't be tho. Why? We are using our cap space in the right way. Maxing out a 2nd tier star like Hayward...even if healthy, not a Smart move.

NOLA is a Saints first type of city - and funnily enough that's reported as a reason for AD wanting out. Anyone who's been there can attest that it's not a bad place. But I don't have much sympathy for them. They screwed up with Chris Paul (yes I know Katrina played a role, obviously), then tanked for Davis and failed there too. They had numerous opportunities to improve that roster, and a pairing of Holiday and AD, combined with an above average coach in Gentry (responsible for the early GSW offense), is a hell of a lot more than we've had to work with for the last few years. Just gross incompetence on their part of creating a strong culture accompanied by winning talent. It's especially important when the other financial incentives for players aren't as compelling.

As for the Pels waiting out for the summer, the only angle that makes sense is trading AD for Zion. That boy is a beast and trumps anything the Lakers and C Bags can offer.

Not bothering to keep Rondo or DMC sent AD the wrong message for sure. He knew they had no chance at competing this year, and he's finally fed up.

They have nobody to blame but themselves.

But Porzingis and AD are very similar players. Do they work together better than a Zion pairing? And Zion will be paid pennies on the dollar for 8 years relatively.

IMHO, NY has zero shot because they don't have the assets. If you get Zion, you don't trade him. You need to see who that kid can become. You don't hear about too many high school kids like Lebron or Zion. AD is great, but if you potentially have another one on the way for less money and a better fit, you don't make that move.

there is no way the knicks would trade zion for AD

no team would do that knowing AD is gone after a season most likely. especially if its a cellar dwellar like the hawks, cavs, or suns

Not to mention, AD + whatever they have there isn't going to compete with the teams that are currently constructed in the East like Toronto, Boston, Philly, or even Milwaukee.

They're better off taking their time and putting together a squad that'll peak after those teams do.

Agreed. I wouldn't trade Zion for AD.
