I'm sure magic and rob are trying to figure out every way to get Davis here, probably even trying to involve a third team. I really hope they get it done. next 2 weeks gonna be hectic till the trade deadline

He said nobody expected the Lakers to unless I heard that wrong. I think he was basically saying expectations are starting to shift, and with potentially nobody wanting to come to play with him in FA, there is a slight amount of panic around making a deal like this.

That was until Paul George came out and said, "Y'all didn't trade for me, so boo hoo."

And then everyone started becoming critical of the Lakers for not making moves sooner than later for Kawhi or whoever.

Well, the perfect storm has come up for the Lakers with the assets that they currently possess. Magic and Rob weren't stupid, they knew they didn't want to just deal for a 2nd Tier star to put next to Lebron, they wanted a 1A.

The Lakers were NEVER in the business of developing players. Kobe and Magic were transcendent draft picks, but then we went and grabbed the two best centers of ALL TIME to put next to them. This is our chance to do it again. Sell the farm, this is what we've been saving our assets for. The rest of the dominoes will fall later. The last thing we want happening is for him to fall into our main rivals hands who already have a budding young team in a less competitive conference.

    GIVE IT ALL UP!

What Cowherd calls panic, we call excitement. Anthony Davis is officially on the market. Selling the farm wouldn’t be panic; it’s making a move to get a Top 5 player that’s only 25 years old.

Panic would have been trading for Beal earlier this season.

NO has ZERO motivation to make this move this season. (Barring AD injury of course)

If they wait til the offseason, lots of sign and trade options exists with lots of cap room available. (Lock players in long term that might not choose there otherwise)
Up the price my mixing in the C Bags assets
They need to sell tickets and give the fan base hope
    They don't have to
They are pissed that a player with best friend agent ties is manipulating things behind the scenes. As soon as Klutch signed AD, you knew something was up.
They don't want to look weak and powerless in the wake of player demands.
They'd prefer to send him anywhere besides where he'd like to go.

Also, it's already being reported some teams may be interested in him for a title run this year knowing that may flip him next year for replacement assets while he's still under contract next year.

AD is being reported as having all of the leverage, but the reality is, the only thing he can do is tell a team "I WILL NOT SIGN AN EXTENSION WITH YOU" and thereby encourage them to not give up too much for him.

So no, we won't be getting AD this season.

He's already made himself the villain in NO. Most people thought he wouldn't be willing to wear that crown. The only reason he made this public now was to give us a chance to get him. He wants to be here and that was clear the second he signed with Bron's agency.

At this point, there is no reason for him not to come forward and tell NO that he will not sign an extension with any team they move him to EXCEPT LA. I assume he didn't want to hit the NO fans with that stinger too today and let that drop next week or Sunday when Superbowl coverage will eat up some of that buzz.

We can and will give up more for him than anyone except Boston. If we offer everything, then that's more than Boston can offer up. And if he won't sign an extension with them, their offer will not feature their two young studs.

i would think NO would try and trade him ASAP

can't see AD playing another game for them when he's healthy after demanding a trade

If NO really did say they’re open to trading with the Lakers, and if Magic is open to trading anyone not named LeBron for him, that changes things quite a bit and something might actually get done.

I still don’t want to sell the farm for AD because I think we still need some youth other than AD on the team, but at this point it might be worth it.

Whatever the outcome, Magic won’t start with offering up everyone for AD. It would be stupid to start a negotiation from there. Start with something reasonable, and if it looks like that goes nowhere... then you offer the farm.

If I'm Magic...put your best offer first.

Stop acting like you have leverage...we don't have it and we need to go all in so the Pelicans don't even LISTEN to other offers.
