Didn’t even really try. If he take like 8 threes and makes 1 or 2 I’m gonna be mad, but to not even take them is worse. If you don’t wanna try, stay at home. This is the NBA, man up and play like you give a f***, if you don’t care to make plays or make stuff happen to try to put the ball in the damn hoop, stay home. I can only defend that sort of play for so long.
Iverson, Ray Allen and a few others were better than Kobe his rookie season. Let's give it a little time, especially when ignoring his defense.
I think he is very talented but I can’t support this passive mentality and 45% free throw shooting anymore. I am sorry, that is just horrible and I could do better than that right now. It is unacceptable.
Lets be honest Zen, Zo was already a done deal, magic had his mind made up as soon as lotto position was set. BI/DLo were somewhat obvious #2 so im not gona call out FO for those 2
May be you are right ... Still, one of the biggest knocks on him is his alleged lack of aggression. Last night I made it a point, for myself, to monitor that. I didn't write play by play, cause you know ... 5 f***ing am, but I do remember what I saw. Zo made at least 6 - 7 drives to the basket which, except for the embarrassing one off the back of the backboard, all went to a proper target or layup (2?) In the test te the cases one of the two things happened: 1. Zo brought the ball up and quickly initiated the motion by passing and cutting, only to never see the ball again Or 2. Someone else brought the ball up, and on our team every idiot thinks he can do it, even KCP, and Ball either was relegated to standing in the corner or cutting with no one noticing. Clearly, both cases are a direct result of some bullsuit equal opportunity "offense" Puke is "running". So... You tell me now, how the f*** should he be more agressive, aside from clocking BI in his stupidass mug and telling him he wouldn't know offense initiation if it hit him in the face and that he should learn to f***ing play off the ball?
I dont know how he can be more aggressive, I mean its not like he hasn't shown that before. Maybe OKC D prevented all of that though? But WOW the effort at the FT line, seriously bro he looks like Rodman, just throwing s*** up there and if it goes it goes in.
Some of that is true, Zen, and I can agree with the coaching part; however Zo needs a system tailored about him to be successful. He's just a very unique fit, and right now, his shooting is so inconsistent and downright just horrible at times. If we're not going to use him the "correct" way, then send him to a place that can develop him properly.
He's such a poor scorer and a shooter that time isn't going to change things much . Sure Rondo , Rubio ect did improve but not enough to be one of the main guys on their team in today's NBA . Lonzo lack of shooting/scoring always will be a problem unless he's surrounded by GSW type of talent . PS : He's not going to improve much by working out with " Lavar circle" or if the we don't have a shooting coach .
THIS. The coaching staff has reversed the roles that BI and Zo should be in. We have a scorer as the facilitator and a facilitator as a spot up shooter. It seems to be by design that Zo brings the ball across court, passes to the wing, then cuts to the corner and stands there. At that point we just iso or PnR Ingram. They’ve both been disappointing, but game after game, the coaching staff puts them in the entirely wrong situations for success.
Think that's pretty much what I see so far; getting better at certain things, but he's still developing. Question is: do we have the patience to watch him develop?
Correct but for : Lonzo , you have to be able to be a scoring threat off the PNR , if this isn't case , the opponent D is always going to play you for the pass. Ingram isn't a spot up shooter , he should be used more as a cutter , it requires better spacing AND weakside movements though Indeed , to have Brandon attacking 30 feet from the basket is incredibly dumb ( should be in the post where he can pull up after one or two dribble or quickly attack the basket To summarize both players have major flaws and the coaching staff is doing little to limit them . This isn"t going to change as BI was already wrongly used last season . Do the Lakers have an stats guy who checks the number of points scored by players by type of plays ? Numerous times , Lakers "twitter" showed BI production as a PNR handler and/or after many dribbles was poor , the rest was good .
Even with Zo not being a scoring threat off the PnR, the eye test tells me that we seem to get decent looks when he initiates. Now we can't shoot most nights so that doesn't always translate into assists, but it at least feels like we end up with good looks. When BI initiates, whether we score or not, everything looks so difficult. He's not a spot up shooter, but he's far more dangerous in that role with his ability to pump fake and drive than he is pounding the ball into the ground near half court.
What bothers me most about Lonzo is his lack of aggressiveness. Like, all through his HS and college career, you saw this PG with so much swagger on the floor, but now that's all gone. The moments where Lonzo is assertive on the court, attacks the rim with conviction, he can't be stopped, but he continually settles for jump shots, looking for passes, and then shies away from the ball. He reminds me a lot of Odom in terms of mentality. There's so much talent there, but some mental block is causing inconsistent play. He really needs to work with Kobe on that. Lavar is busy trying to get Melo into the league after Gelo failed, so he needs to man up and take his development into his own hands. This isn't childs play anymore.
