I have to say he is doing much better now. The team is clicking, we play solid defense and he is better at recognizing when to call timeouts. He's great at complaining to the refs too, his ref game is very strong IMO.
Can't believe Luke ran that play last night where Lance passed a wide open lay up and then Lonzo threw a mid air behind the back pass the nobody. On the plus side his face was hilarious.
Most folks on here know I'm a Luke Supporter. But that was disgusting the amount of minutes Lance played last night especially in that 4th quarter where he played like the first 7 minutes or so until Tyson came in for him at around the 5 minute mark. Play Svi or play KCP instead. I hated that decision!
And this post is the prime example of my repeated point in the last few pages of this thread. Any bad result = Luke sux Any good result = team is carrying Luke’s sorry butt All I’m asking for is some consistency. If we complain based on performance and result (and we should), then why not give props based on performance and results (and we should)?
My favorite play they run so far, is that Kuz brush screen with Lonzo for the baseline score. Works almost every time. Took awhile for them to execute, but things are starting to click with the team. Hart adds a shooting touch to the starting 5 that helps spread the floor as well.
Consistency is needed, and to your point again they won't even come over and say anything positive when it happens. Meanwhile some of us who support Luke will come out and say things we hated that he did or disagreed with. It's only one side with them.
We'd be 27-0 if Luke had just started the right players doe. Also get it right...we're winning in Sprite of Mountain Dew.
Also, if Kuz is bringing the ball up court, and passes to LeBron at the top, then they’re running a two man play with Kuz getting in position for the 3 standing in an open passing lane and letting LeBron read the play. Driving, or passing it to Kuz for the 3. That two man game has been super effective in late game situations
I feel I’ve been consistent in the game day threads and here. I think Luke is doing a decent job of instilling a defensive system he wants the team to play and we’ve had success there. But also we have some average to good defensive players, Mcgee, Chandler, KCP, Ingram, Hart, Rondo, Lonzo and Lebron when he wants to. I’ve also been consistent in my comments that Luke gets out coached in a lot of the intricacies of the game and a lot of our growth as a team will come from familiarity of the players and less from great offensive and defensive schemes. Nothing wrong with saying Luke isn’t an elite coach.
I don’t follow the game day chat so I can’t speak to that. But your post above was just flat out ridiculous. It’s like I said earlier in the thread. You could have said Phil Jackson should not get any credit because he had MJ & Kobe. Or Pop with Duncan. I have no issue with your conclusion that Luke is not an elite coach but your post above made it clear that he deserves no credit at all for a 15-5 record over the last 20. Does he deserve all the credit? Of course not. Does he deserve some? Of course.
Still needs to stop putting out stupid rotations in crucial moments. But other than that, I like what Luke has done with this group. He's created a culture and guys love being around each other... He's also running more halfcourt sets (still would like to see more of this)...so props to him for getting something in the half court.
All right, credit where it's due. TIME should appreciate this one. I've got to say this was a great job getting our guys refocused and ready for this huge bounce back game after the Houston disappointment. Good work Luke! Turned out to be one of my favorite Laker games in ages. Props to Luke for getting us right back to winning.
