Yeah that seems like a main home, family move in that people do not move to Westlake Village as a second home. You have a 2nd home in LA it's in Bel Air, Brentwood or even Malibu if you want the beach. But Westlake is a bit secluded, they have a 0 murder rate and 0.24 robbery rate. Safe place to raise kids. That place looks to be worth twice that amount. At least the same size digs in Hidden Hills, not far away at all would be double.

Bought his Louisiana home in 2013 for 1.5m.

@KareemtheGreat33 and I know that even tho LT is our guy, his hijinx can't be touched. In fact, I'm hoping LT doubts the validity of this thread and the possibility of AD to LA...cause it'll definitely improve the odds then.

Also based off estimations, he is first eligible for a supermax extension the summer of 2019 that would kick in for the following year (ie 2020/21 season)...so him deciding to stay in NO as a Designated Max Player would lead to these annual payouts:

    2020/21 41.3m
    2021/22 44.6m
    2022/23 48.2m
    2023/24 52m
    2024/25 56.2m
    = 5yrs 242.3m

If he forces a trade and then the new team extends him using his bird rights:

    2020/21 35.4
    2021/22 38.2m
    2022/23 41.3m
    2023/24 44.6m
    2024/25 48.2m
    = 5yrs 207.6m

So we're taking about a 34.7m difference over 5 years. As we've seen with the supermax, Paula and Kawhi didn't really want any part of it, while Sac traded Boogie to avoid it.

Also here are comments AD made with Rachel in February of this year:

These comments were based off of KG's advice for Bron before his "decision" to take his talents to Miami and win his first chip as part of a superteam.

50 million for 82 games lol

When the media contracts expire, I have to think this salary bubble is going to pop. It can't keep going up like this. Can it?

Too many people are moving away from traditional revenue generating sources. Without the money coming in, the media contracts can't be so outrageous. When that happens, I fully expect a massive work stoppage to occur. CBA's are both good and bad, but they better time one to end the same year as the current crazy media contracts, or things could get ugly.

    I disagree.

Just because traditional revenue sources are scarce, there's new revenue sources open for these media empires. Advertising is always strong, streaming media is only going to continue to grow.

And if anything these players have been consistently undervalued due to the restrictions of the NBA CBA and their salary cap. You really think Kobe's top worth to the Lakers was 25 million? LeBron is worth twice his NBA contract right now if there were no salary cap. The NBA is the fastest growing sport in the US and one of the fastest growing sports worldwide. There's no reason players shouldn't be seeing more of that cash.

while I can agree with part of that, if they cannot find a way to capture the revenue streams, it doesn't make a difference

I stream most of the games since I don't have cable and live outside of the local market. They get zero from me. I don't buy merchandise, and going to a game is rare. The new generation is all about free entertainment, and arena prices are flat out absurd right now.

While top guys are for sure capped, most of the players are overpaid for their talents. ESPN basically admitted that with their revenue drop in combination with the huge media rights contracts they gave out forced them into mass layoffs. They are the big guys who gave out the biggest contracts.

If they can't turn it around, and if there is less competition for the next contracts, the prices won't be as high. Billion dollar contracts are no joke.

Luckily, none of this is my problem. But 50 million to play a kids game is a dream come true for those guys I'm sure. In one year? That's sooooooo much more than most top level executives/professionals will sniff in their entire lifetime, so yes, It can be difficult to relate and or sympathize. I fully expect the next media contract to go down. ESPN has lost major market share. Are others making it up? I sense it's moving online into an environment where they don't seem to be able to monetize it or regulate it to the same degree cable used to pay them.

It seems like you're probably not their target audience then. Even if you're a big Laker fan, if you're not buying anything from them then I'm not sure you're who they're going after anyway.

I can say this: I've seen more LeBron Laker jerseys around LA than I've seen of any other Laker jersey in the last 5 years without a doubt. In fact I'm seeing nearly as many LeBron jerseys as I've seen Kobe jerseys since we were relevant. Arena prices sure are insane now, but I'm not sure that's going to matter as they're going to sell out every game anyway.

As for capturing the revenue streams, that's coming. All of these carriers are deep in research and development on their own personal streaming services. Disney is close. ESPN already has theirs. The key will be putting it at a good price point while also providing exclusive content that's good enough people will want to watch it. The age of 500 channels where people only watch about 40 of them is leaving quickly. Instead you're going to get an app (really a series of them probably owned by the same company) that costs much less than your typical cable/satellite bill that will provide you with 4K digital streaming and cross platform services. It's 100% coming and will 100% trickle through to the players. There's no way the media contracts are going down on live events anyway. Live events are one of the few ways that these companies can get eyes on their product in the desired time slots. Sports is one of the final big money makers in cable/satellite.

ESPN has a lot of problems and their excuse that the media contracts for the NBA caused layoffs is a massive load of ****. The problem is they don't have enough content that is interesting to keep the lights on for all their myriad of products. The only people who justify having eyes on their show are the idiotic shock jock talking heads like SAS who commands 8 figure salary. You want to know why they had to layoff a ton of people? Because they have 8 channels, 7 of which they can no longer justify and instead of shutting down and streamlining their content, they doubled down on bad investments like SAS.

Luckily The Athletic is proving that good content is worth paying for.

AD is the one guy I'm comfortable trading a young piece or two to get. Lets hope the lost of Boogie and Rondo hurts them more than the addition of Elfrid Payton and Randle. They miss the playoffs and he wants out.
