Well they rely on him for feedback on how things feel at each stage back in the rehab process. Maybe the poor guy is just challenged with the sensitivity of his nerve endings?
I would imagine that this pretty much seals the deal that Rondo will be starting on opening night and Lonzo comes off the bench if the front office/coaching staff wants to remain credible when they said everyone will have the opportunity to compete for minutes. It was already questionable if Zo could outplay Rondo in training camp if he came in 100% healthy. Now he will probably miss at least a week or two, so potentially a quarter or half of training camp and need to come back trying to play “catch up” to everyone else. It’s disappointing but I sort of expected it... throughout Lonzo’s Rookie season it seemed like he has a extremely low threshold for pain. Days are gone of superstar Lakers legends that would literally play through anything... He’s sort of closer to Dwayne Wade who needed a wheelchair for a shoulder injury.
A lot of that is on trainers and FO being careful with their valuable asset. I'm glad they didn't have him out there making the actual damage worse last year. This is just 5 on 5 restriction a little while longer. No big deal.
No surprise here. Big Baller b**** will not be ready by start of the season...in fact, I'll put money down that he's out until December. Last year we had to deal with this "day to day" crap that turned into months. I'm already hating how the year is starting for him...ship his a** out for Butler please.
On one hand, I certainly don't mind us taking a cautious approach with him. On the other, I scratch my head because the team announces time frames for our players to return that at least seem to frequently be off base. Kinda wish we'd be more vague or overshoot their return than to be seemingly definitive i.e. he'll be ready by camp.
Lakers have the luxury of a stud in Rajon Rondo to fall back on now. If Softball wants to take his time, go right ahead. This train isnt stopping for anyone. Get on or get your a** sent somewhere else for assets.
It's not a good sign that he's not ready. I've been as optimistic as anyone else (probably more than most) on Lonzo and his development, but knowing the timeline that he should be on this is notable. Knowing his last year with injury issues, this is a concern.
