Is there something wrong with respectabillity politics?

Why would his brand surprass Jordan's ever?

To do justice to your questions you all will probably have to define what is meant by “brand”. Is it only basketball related only, or does it extend to politics, or include any and everything associated with that person. Without yet knowing that answer, I would say LeBron has a bigger brand if you talk about everything associated with that person. But if it’s just basketball then I would say Jordan, though LeBron is probably 2nd or 3rd.

Bron the basketball player compared to Jordan the basketball player....that comparison probably never comes close to becoming realized in terms of impact/influence.

But Bron off the court compared to Jordan off the court...that too holds no comparison whatsoever.

    I'll let KAJ explain it:

And while we're at it, KAJ is absolutely 100% correct on this issue and frankly its such a tired discussion that holds absolutely no weight in a team sport.

    Preach Kap!

the easy part is that Lebron basketball wise is in a era where team loyalty isn't a thing from fans. The cross-over is huge. MJ's brand exploded, in my opinion, as the media promoted the GOAT stuff. MJ could do no wrong in the sports media world. That took over the shoe market. The marketing was amazing but he really didn't have any competition when the push for Air Jordans started. MJ 6 finals-6 final wins. Easy sell. Want to be great? Be like Mike! He cornered that market and then NIke signed nearly all his major competition which would NEVER compete with the Jordan brand. All that is great. MJ as a person isn't likable. More importantly the fans of today don't revere him as we old heads do/did. Lebron is only just in the conversation for GOAT but I honestly don't think he touches the like of MJ, Kap and yes Kobe.

All that being said, Lebron is the face of the NBA today. He came in and made his own brand early on. Him and his team have orchestrated his career, no matter how we like or don't like it, pretty damn well. He is already a global Icon in basketball. He is ahead of what Mike was able to do because Mike really did it first. Lebron benefits from that on the basketball side. Lebron also benefits from Magic who built his empire after basketball. Lebron has Magics charm and Mikes media love. How could he not surpass them would be the better question?

If Lebron brought another ring to LA he would pass MJ even faster. I don't think he needs to do that to surpass mike in any case but it would be a boost if he did.

Your question, used as a response and really as a diversion in this manner, is similar to the response to this statement:

"We've just discovered a healthy cure for cancer that has passed advanced clinical trials and is ready to be released to the general public at insignificant cost and without the need for taking pharmaceuticals."

    YOU:

"Is there something wrong with pharmaceuticals?"

The point is you've completely ducked the substance and essence of this acknowledgement of the program. It's not important what other things are or do here, it's important what I Promise is doing. But since we're at it, you can easily look up a lot of stuff about how "respectability politics" in the schools mentioned basically means a societal narrative asserting that your potential correlates with your appearance. In other words, the idea is to make you more "palatable" by way of making you look more business-like or "white" and "non-threatening". But that's not important, even if he didn't know what he was talking about, you are just trying to divert attention away from something good, hell, inspirational even, that LBJ has done. Like saying "hey! look over here everybody!". You know that this little school sets a big precedent for people like Gates, Ellison, Bezos, Buffett, etc, people with far more money and power who could put up schools like this all over the country? Take off the Bron Blinders long enough to have a little respect when it's due :)
