All I'm saying is having Kuzma is as good or better than having Tatum. It happened. Why the hand wringing now over how everything went down. We also have Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart. Enjoy the ride.
i never liked ball but i will admit he does things to help win gms that arent gona look flashy like tatum but to say we didnt need tatum cause kuzma turned out better than expected is a flawed theory. teams can have multiple good players playing same position.
I'm taking the way Magic and Rob did that draft and never looking back. Sounds like you would prefer to have had it been done a different way and take your chances it turns out as well. Agree to disagree.
i dont agree with not having worked out tatum at all, i can live with ball pick, regardless of how these 2 players career turns out, they worked out more candidates during ingram draft yr for #2 pick then they did with ball, he was going to be the pick regardless
They could have loved BI that much at SF and knew it last year and had their sights set on PG and PF and SG instead of taking another SF?
heres a good example of how we could've missed on a transcedent star because we already had a good propsect at same position....we had eddie jones at sg, imagine we take this same stance on NOT picking kobe because we already had jones
- it's true we could have drafted Tatum and still kept Kuzma and Ingram. - it's also true that Tatum has outplayed Ball thus far. - It is far too early to say that Tatum > Ball. - Kobe's opinion on who we should have drafted does not affect my opinion on Ball. - I'm completely satisfied with our drafts the last few years. - The real argument should be Mitchell vs. Ball.
real my thing wasnt to say whose better, i just felt mgmt keyed in on Ball n didnt have an open mind on anyone else, i think the only the other prospect i recalled them working out was jackson but im probably wrong
I think they did too. (keyed in on Ball) If he gets healthy and strong and with the talent that is now around him ... look the hell out.
I can't remember if they worked anyone else out either, but I do remember it was between Jackson and Ball.
didn't kobe want to trade bynum for jason kidd? who says he'd be as good of a GM as he was a player i'm honestly excited to see how lonzo meshes with lebron. i have a feeling it's going to be very fun to watch
There is little doubt that Tatum was a more impactful player last season. He carried his team well on the scoring end and was a good defender too with almost a full season of games under his belt. It'll probably be the same for this upcoming season - he has had DEEP playoff experience to help him grow, as well as a full offseason to trade injury free and with Kobe, whereas Lonzo has been injured during the season and offseason too. I think fans just need to get used to Tatum being the better prospect for the next few seasons while Lonzo catches up. Hard to say right now at their full realized potential who would be the better prospect though. Depends on what you value more, a prototypical SF or a swiss army knife PG.
I think it’s also important to remember that the draft is almost always a gamble, there is very rarely a sure thing. Kevin Durant looked like the surest of the sure having watched him in college a lot, and Portland STILL took Oden. We aren’t the only team you can question in the draft. Historically the #2 pick is filled with guys that were highly regarded and didn’t pan out, total and complete misses, and very few stars. Players before that were probably easier consensus picks and players after that, well, you have a large pool to pick apart in hindsight. #2 picks since ‘96, which I picked because it’s when Kobe was drafted http://www.basketballinsiders.com/h...-pick/history-of-the-nba-draft-pick-number-2/ History of the NBA Draft – Pick Number 2 Number 2 Year Player School/Country – Team 2017 Lonzo Ball, UCLA – Los Angeles Lakers 2016 Brandon Ingram, Duke – Los Angeles Lakers 2015 D’Angelo Russell, Ohio State – Los Angeles Lakers 2014 Jabari Parker, Duke – Milwaukee Bucks 2013 Victor Oladipo, Indiana – Orlando Magic 2012 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky – Charlotte Bobcats 2011 Derrick Williams, Arizona – Minnesota Timberwolves 2010 Evan Turner, Ohio State – Philadelphia 76ers 2000’s 2009 Hasheem Thabeet, Connecticut – Memphis Grizzlies 2008 Michael Beasley, Kansas State – Miami HEAT 2007 Kevin Durant, Texas – Seattle Supersonics 2006 LaMarcus Aldridge, Texas – Chicago Bulls (Draft rights traded to Portland Trail Blazers) 2005 Marvin Williams, North Carolina – Atlanta Hawks 2004 Emeka Okafor, Connecticut – Charlotte Bobcats 2003 Darko Milicic, Serbia & Montenegro – Detroit Pistons 2002 Jay Williams, Duke – Chicago Bulls 2001 Tyson Chandler, Dominguez HS (Calif.) – L.A. Clippers (Draft rights traded to Chicago Bulls) 2000 Stromile Swift, LSU – Vancouver Grizzlies 1990’s 1999 Steve Francis, Maryland – Vancouver Grizzlies 1998 Mike Bibby, Arizona – Vancouver Grizzlies 1997 Keith Van Horn, Utah – Philadelphia 76ers (Draft rights traded to New Jersey Nets) 1996 Marcus Camby, Massachusetts – Toronto Raptors Look at all those misses or guys that were suppsed to be stars and weren’t. Look at those streaks of 4 or 5 years or misses in a row. Swift through Jay Williams (Chandler is arguably fine though), Beasley through MKG, it’s not a pretty sight. Picking second appears to be difficult, you don’t get to take a LeBron, or the Towns’ and Simmons’ of the world. It’s hindsight only that allows you to tear a front office apart though. You can probably say at this point we messed up with Russell and that Porzingis or Booker was the right pick. I think Ingram was right though, and I still think Ball probably will be. Donovan Mitchell is not on us, he got passed on by so many teams. Tatum is a legit argument, but still too early for me. In the end I’m very excited to see Zo play this season next to LeBron and pushed and mentored by Rondo. I just hope for good health, and that the shot falls more consistently.
Jeanie wanted Lonzo cause of the "hollywood" factor , I don't think Maginka and the scouting department had much choice
I'm not sure what shocked you . We didn't have a star/a player making the headlines . Lonzo wasn't only a B-ball choice ...
