So raptors are going to recruit Kawhi for a year and see what happens. Either there plan works or they rebuild and get rid of DeMars ugly contract (cap space). Kawhi isn't public and buddy buddy like p**** p, that ain't his persona... We'll see what happens during the season. Maybe Kawhi isn't healthy to play yet either. Maybe he'll sit out the whole year or even force the raptors to trade with us later

Raptors just wanted to get out of that Derozan contract. Kawhi staying is just an added bonus ;)

Ah, what a bad trade for SA. They get a “star” in name, but who flames out in the playoffs, he will pair perfectly with Aldridge, and Pop will love the pairing of their incredible mental fortitude. It will be like Duncan-Kawhi 2.0 :D. So much for loyalty right? DeRozan doesn’t even give us a meeting a couple years ago, chooses Toronto to suppsedly win with Lowry, and now he’s out of there. This will basically Paul George’s future in OKC, good choice being incredible wussies to both of them.

As for Kawhi, LOL @ the Raptors betting on “culture”. A culture of what, perpetual playoff disappointment? Chris Sheridan, drunkard as he may appear to be, has been saying he can see Kawhi choosing NY in free agency simply for big market, possibly us as well. So we shall see if he’s about winning wherever he goes, or if he truly wants to be in a big market. Not that Toronto isn’t a great city, because it is, but in the NBA it is irrelevant. Huge win for Toronto though based off of these early reports, unless they give up multiple picks. Even if Kawhi leaves they got rid of that loser DeRozan.

Toronto would have probably traded DeRozan just to dump his 30 mio. annual salary.

I'm amazed at the Spurs. I would have much preferred a deal for Ingram plus Hart. Alone that is better than DeRozan.

Anyone else think the Raptors might try and flip Kawhi for Ingram at the deadline?

Actually read the Woj article, too good

Be careful what you ask for, Kawhi. And We The North! LOL I guess even Toronto will only put up with so many playoff choke jobs.

I am not surprised and no one should be upset with the front office.

I said on here many times that I didn’t think Pop would trade with us. I think time will definitely show (and fairly quickly) that they should have taken some combo of Hart, Kuz, Ingram or Zo over DeRozan.

I’m not sold on the Raptors culture being so overwhelming though. Leonard is already the best player on a team that has a great reputation and a winning culture. There’s way more to this than basketball. I’d be way more worried about New York honestly.

This is definitely going to be interesting. OKC wasn’t dealing with a guy this adamant about playing in a certain location.

It just gets more messy the more I think of it. Why would any players commit long term to two franchises that are screwing with their best players like this. The Raptors lie to Demar. Spurs ship Leonard to a different country. It’ll be interesting to see if this impacts other free agents next year.

I don’t see why they would not trade him in February. Just get something. I think the trade works out for Toronto in unloading DD, getting whatever from the spurs and then whatever they can get in February.

This trade definitely makes both front offices look bad.

Completely agree. Not a good look but maybe the Raptors could have some tricks up their sleeve. Their asking price would probably be more reasonable than the Spurs.

This is my thinking too. Spurs shooting themselves in the foot here.
