So Pels are at 112M which gives them 19M in space before they hit the apron (131m). Since they're capped they can't sign Jules outright with cap space. So that means they must have renounced Boogie's bird rights to do so. And if they did, they gains the nontaxpayer MLE of 8.8m (which would be about 18m over 2 years). They were capped and they signed Elfrid Payton to 2.7m. A couple things here...maybe they reported this wrong and its a 2.4m vet exception or its accurately reported at 2.7m and the Pels used the Bi-Annual exception (BAE) to sign him. If that latter is what happened, then NOP is hard capped at the apron. So if they're signing Boogie, then they can't pay him more than 19M since that would make them hit the apron and it would violate the signing. Essentially with Payton/Jules, the Pels flipped the bird to Boogie.
Any incoming S&T'd player will hard cap the team. We're in really no danger to breach the apron (131m). However it looks like NOP used the BAE on Elfrid and that hard caps them. Also if they further take in S&T'd Jules, then that hard caps them too. Interesting wrinkle is that they're capped out, so how did they sign Jules to a 2 year 18M deal (non-tax payer MLE) if they still have Boogie's bird rights on the books? This only means, that they must have renounced Boogie to do so...or they are ready to trade him. Btw, Rondo also has 9M (non-tax payer MLE 8.8m), so how did that happen if we used the room exception to sign Stevenson. Unless we didn't. If we didn't, then that means we're acting like we're over the cap.
Sorry real dumb question. When it says 2 years 18M is that 18M starting first year with some raise the 2nd if he opts in? Or is that 9M starting with the raise and same choice?
This is... tough. I liked Julius quite a lot and spent a long time defending him. Knowing that in the end he asked to be let out is a really tough pill to swallow. I wish him the best. F*** his agent and the way his agent used us to mess around with George. I hope Julius fires that guy.
This is like the ex that got away... this one really hurts, I don’t understand why we just didn’t keep the guy... on a similar deal... I really wanted him here
To me it's obvious what happened. We didn't want to give Randle more than a one year deal since we need cap space for 2019. Randle felt like we didn't value him (started the season on the bench, didn't receive a contract offer from us at the start of free agency, same agent as Russell and PG poisoning his mind against us), so he demanded we let him go, and we granted his request since it let us sign Rondo.
Hey #JustPayJules fans, your boy did in fact get 18M...congrats! Sorry, I know the wound is fresh, but I had to hahaha.
The first of our young draftees, had a rocky start to his career and the start of the last season. Finally rounded himself into a solid role. A lot of people still wanted him back but he (and most definitely Mintz) didn't want him here so there's not much you can do about that. That is a deal we could have probably given him, they probably wanted more from us though. Oh well, he's an interesting fit next to AD, we'll see how that goes. Correct me if I'm wrong but that leaves just Ingram and Zubac (and Deng) leftover from the previous regime?
My favorite Laker is gone, will need some time make peace with this fact. Good luck Julius, I'm sure you'll have a great career.
Why? People here are extremely happy with their amazing front office and their new darlings Stephenson, Rondo, McGee... YOU CAN'T CRITICIZE THE FRONT OFFICE, THEY SIGNED LEBRON JAMES. YOU ARE UNGRATEFUL.
I mean a little bit, yeah. The three guys you named are one year deals. One is a room exception and one is a minimum contract. Is it worth it to get worked up over that?
