It was over for a while now, we just didn't want to see the writing in the wall, not starting, no extension talks, PG fiasco and finally LBJ signing made him expendable.
It really was if you look at it objectively. I remember hearing more than once that Randle was not in our long term plans, I just didn’t want to believe it at the time.
You asked if we lost his bird rights by renouncing him and I answered your question. We do not. Now I highly doubt this happens moving forward, but technically we have 2.4M in space before we renounced Jules and grabbed Rajon. That number went to 14.8m after we renounced Jules and then became 5.8m after the Rondo signing. Conveniently, that number is just about the QO amount for Jules (5.6M). Maybe we allowed him to go around the league hunting for deals and if they can't find one, they can come back and sign for that amount (technically the QO). His rights would still be important to them in that, we can trade him immediately or later this year and those rights get transferred to the team that trades for him. They can then makes him a rich man next year using those rights. No we cannot sign him over the cap now....it would be only with available cap now. The only guys that we technically can still go into the cap with and then trade right away would be IT, Frye, BLo and even Ennis, cause we still have his rights.
Exactly. More than any player on this team Randle listened to what was asked of him and DID IT. We need more information on why this happened ASAP
Dang, I am going to miss Julius. As a UK fan and Laker fan, it was awesome watching him grow these last few years. Hope he kills it at his next stop.
I agree and understand that but why didn't Randle fire him and stick around anyway. Things just aren't adding up completely. Luke has got to be really bummed out by this news. I still would like more answers
We didn't have much competition and could have signed him to a friendly multi year deal. Then come next year unload Deng's contract and still offer Kawhi a max deal. We lost Randle because we were Max player hunting for next year. Plain and simple. I understand it but its very disappointing when we could have accomplished BOTH
It's not definitely possible the Lakers FO shares some blame, but the common theme in the last year with guys leaving: Aaron Mintz. He's not doing his clients any favors.
Maybe they anticipate no playing time and a drastic role change, cause someone is coming to impact his position at PF/C....Bron is a PF, so who could impact him at C? It can't be McGee, right? Let's Boogie!
