Well, Brooklyn is going to let Dwight go outright anyway, so they'd be sitting on a bunch of cash, might as well get young talent like Ju out of it, because let's be real here, who's going to want to sign in Brooklyn? At least with Ju, he could get his money, play with an old teammate with D'lo, and probably be the best player on the team. I would do the straight up trade if San Antonio is up for it.
The buyout is going to cost them some cap room so I'm not sure Brooklyn will have a real full max to offer. I'm 100% open to any idea that lets us keep the majority of our youngsters while adding Kawhi, LeBron, and George so if we could pull off a three teamer or something like you're outlining, I'm 1000% in. Give me that Ball/George/Kawhi/Kuzma/LeBron lineup and let's go beat Golden State.
So Randle and BI for a player who might not be the same guy ever again? Wouldn't evaluating all 3 of them until next year's deadline at least (with Randle re-signed) be the much smarter and safer strategic decision? Randle and Ingram in their primes collectively on the Lakers in 5 years >>>> better than 30 year old Leonard if he's still effective or simply starting to slow down from his peak. IMO even 3 years or less it's going to be obvious with Ingram and Randle that this was a horrible mistake. Julius only if this has to happen. And iron clad evidence that Kawhi will be the same player.
For a lineup of Ball/George/Kawhi/LeBron/whoever the ****? I'll take that trade. Even if Kawhi is a step back, he'll be... another George. That lineup gives the Warriors real trouble.
Having LBJ, PG, BI, Lonzo, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, Moe, Svi and and next year's more powerful Julius Randle edition will give them more than all they can handle. This is where the Magic and Rob magic should happen IMO. Don't **** this up!! You're physical awareness guy here and don't address that most important element I included. How do we get certainty without watching him play in tough NBA conditions again? To be willing to give up those 2 players without evidence.
He has to pass a physical obviously before we agree to the deal. If/when he passes, I make the move. I've already shown that I'm concerned about his injury, but that's why I'm not giving up Kuzma AND Ingram. If I give up one of them, I'm still game. Preferably Ingram who I like a ton.
I'd much rather watch my roster play and we'd be right in GS's faces every game. I went back and added Moe. Svi too, hopefully. We're deeper. And we're a monster in the future.
Possibly, but with Kawhi and George and Kuzma and Ball, we're still a monster later and we're a better monster now.
Who has cap space? Chicago (40M): But with capholds to RFAs LaVine & Vonleh and with the Wendell Carter, that number goes to about 16M to spend in free agency Philly (31M): With Zhaire and Shamet, that numbers goes to 27M to spend in free agency and we know that Philly is big game hunting...is Jules even on their radar? ATL (29M): With Trae, Huerter and Spellman, that number goes to 19M to spend in free agency Sac (25M): With Bagley, that number goes to 18M to spend in free agency Dallas (32M): With capholds to RFAs McDermott, Yogi & Mejri and with Luka, that number goes to about 10M to spend in free agency So without some radical stretching of contracts, Jules's market certainly doesn't project to his max of 25.4 and out of all those rebuilding teams, who's looking to pay him close to 20M as the top priority this summer? Granted, Dallas can renounce their RFA's and not pick up Dirk's 5M team option to create room for Jules, but as is, his market isn't bustling and that means that if he wants to get paid, his best option could be to construct a S&T with us to get to a preferable location (that presently doesn't have the cap to outright get him in free agency). Jules would obviously have to consent on a S&T but if money is thrown at him in a frigid market place, that could be his best option. EDIT: Dallas just opened up 20M in cap space...
I don't feel like Dallas is opening up cap room to get Jules though...I feel it's for DJ, Cousins or heck Capela or Aaron Gordon...Jules likely last on their list. With that said, it looks like Jules options are Dallas, LA or San Antonio in a S&T.
Of course before we pull the trigger on a Kawhi trade, he'll have to past our physical. But waiting until the trade deadline to do it opens up so many doors for things to go wrong. Maybe theres a disgruntled star that wants to play in SAS. A team missing just one piece might be willing to pull the trigger on Kawhi. Etc. If you can do it now, do it now but please dont sacrifice too many young guns for this Rob/Magic
S&T or QO for julius seems to be getting more likely. either is better than worrying about matching an RFA offer. edit: odd thought: would julius consider coming back to us for less than the QO if FA turns sour for him. could we retain his bird rights if so? because would be pretty sweet.
Btw, you can now officially (without tampering) negotiate S&T possibilities using Jules. The chess board that is free agency haha...Dallas renounces McDermott opening up just enough for a 20M offer to Jules in free agency...LA then quickly rebuttals by tendering him in order to match. Also another interesting thing to look at...Dallas now has about 20M in cap space and if they decline Dirk's team option, they open up about 25M in cap....just enough for BK to reroute Dwight or the cLips to reroute DJ (via an opt in) into. Once that happens, Dirk can accept the room exception of 4.6M (which is yet another pay cut that he has provided Dallas with over the years).
I hope I'm wrong but I can see Mintz saying, why'd it take this long for them to give Julius the Qualifying Offer Relax, Aaron....
Came here to ask about this. Can you elaborate on what all is currently possible regarding a S&T? Can we actually execute a S&T right now? Or at least before the moratorium ends on July 6th? I’d imagine that might be possible since he’s our own free agent. I guess under tampering rules he couldn’t technically communicate with San Antonio, but would we theoretically be able to execute a S&T involving Randle for Kawhi before free agency starts?
Since he is our FA, we can talk to him about this stuff legally. He would have to be receptive to a sign and trade. If he isn't willing to go to the team we're trying to trade with, he can just go into RFA on his own. No deals, with our own team or not, are allowed to be signed until July 6th, but can be agreed upon on July 1st. So we couldn't officially sign and trade him until the 1st, but we could build the deal and "agree" to it before that as long as that trade doesn't involve any FAs who are not ours.
