Ask Golden State about the importance of Andre Iguodala, they almost lost to an inferior team with their 4 All-Stars healthy. Ask the 04 Lakers if their shoddy bench was an issue in the Finals. Of course depth matters. Ask Rob Pelinka about the importance of keeping young, competent players on cheap contracts.

It's definitely not as simple as "does the bench really matter?"

All 3 of their stars would be coming off pretty serious injuries to start the season. Not all 3 would probably last through the playoffs.

Could be seen as karma, just like what happened to them last season.

Boston fleeced Philly by trading them a hurt Fultz, then Boston fleeced Cleveland by trading them a more hurt Isaiah, both within the same summer.

Karma intervened and Hayward got hurt to start their season and Kyrie to end their season.

So Boston wants Leonard this summer, San Antonio can return the favor and fleece Boston for all they got by trading a hurt Leonard.

I don't see any way Cleveland can get to Kawhi. What pieces do they have of value that other teams can't destroy in trade opportunities, even three way trades? The only way this happens is if Buford, for no reason at all, takes pity on Dan Gilbert and sends him Kawhi for a lesser package.

I honestly think there's no way to rebuild this relationship. LeBron has both feet out the door right now and Cleveland has no way to change that.

This is going to be one crazy summer. Who needs the NBA finals when you got the off season!! I just hope all this ends in our favor as a successful summer.

Be prepared for an influx of new “reports” that are really just one media outlet quoting an outdated tweet from another media outlet.

Don’t negotiate out of desperation, especially if you are very likely getting 2 top 10 players already. I play fair at best with the spurs, but in no way am I taking the “take what you want” approach to the spurs that I hear local sports radio talking about. Take what you want is looking like 3-4 players of their choice and picks. No way. And unless I have a different trade for Zo that gets rid of Deng, Zo must go in that package trade to the spurs.

Part of me wishes we could keep Zo because that facilitates ball movement better to keep LeBron from dominating the ball, and takes pressure off of LeBron as well, but Zo and his Dad are too much. He could change of course with maturity and having respected vets in the team to keep expectations high, but his dad ain’t changing. And maybe that could be ignored as well.

tobias harris and the 12? yeah, i think we can beat that if it comes down to it.

btw, kawhi going east (to philly) might be good for us (and the league). they might abandon pursuit of lebron because it would necessitate trading more pieces after just moving some for leonard.

anyway, after some eyebrow-raising first minutes, i'm starting to think this is going to be a george situation. some team is going to get him for less than i think we should offer, and we'll be hoping it blows up there.

Obviously getting kawhi, Lebron and PG is the supreme preference, but "just" Lebron and PG to go with our youngsters is nothing to be disappointed about (unless kawhi goes to the C Bags. That'd be nauseating.)

    Lonzo/Yogi Ferrell
    PG/Hart
    Ingram
    Lebron/Kuz
    Randle/Lopez

I absolutely agree Punk-101. Lebron, PG, resigned Randle and Lopez is a Grand Slam. But, until/unless something different happens I'm all in for getting all three of Kawhi, Lebron and PG. The idea of that trio together is just too scintillating.

Re: Spurs refuse to trade kawhi west, especially to the Lakers...

Does Philly or boston really believe that Kawhi will walk to the lakers after next year since the lakers can only offer him $19mil instead of his full $30 max? is the LA shoe deal enough to balance that out? IMO, Philly or Boston gladly trades for Kawhi. They're both big markets with a rich NBA history and either one will be NBA finals contenders with Kawhi. Why would he leave for less money to join the lakers?

In other words, I don't see how we can trade for Kawhi, even offering the spurs ALL our young assets. I just don't see kawhi telling teams that he absolutely will not resign with them.

thought i posted but if leonard ends up in clev n james stays, i wouldnt mind a 1+1 prove it deal with dmc along with pg n a reup randle, randle could always be a trade chip later if leonard still has interest in lal next off season, if dmc takes team friendly contract along with randle/pg...i think we can still keep deng on for another yr n wait to move him as an expiring, i think if all things fall in place n dmc comes back fully healthy we can push for wcf with this team
    ball
    ingram
    pg
    randle
dmc (lopez retained n start till dmc returns)

After taking in everything that’s happened over the last few days, my theory is this:

I don’t think SA believes Kawhi is healthy and they doubt he ever gets back to his old self. That’s why they won’t offer him the Super Max. They wanted to talk to him about it, convince him to take less, but he didn’t want to hear any of that. He thinks he’s worth the Super Max and anything less is an insult.

So now he puts it out there that he wants to be traded to the Lakers. SA is notoriously tight lipped about info an won’t let it slip that they don’t think he’s ever going to be the player he was in order to keep his trade stock at a Max Super Star level.

But I think Magic and Rob are already suspicious of the situation and won’t trade with the Spurs for their asking price. Eventually Kawhi gets traded to the Clippers or some other team that doesn’t matter.

I think it all come down to no Kawhi to the Lakers. We “just” get LABron and PG, resign Randle, and I’m good with that.
