Well we weren't exactly holding money bags at that point. The way you wrote it, I thought some big FA had chosen them over us that I couldn't remember.

That to me was a wildly different situation. If that trade goes through, I think Mitch probably still has a job.

yeah, i can see how it looked that way. i was weaving in a couple converging (sad) storylines: one of the clips owning the city and getting all the stars and the second being our getting routinely burned by hoarding cap space while others just trade for talent.

Yep, and if we miss him, I'm going to be sorely disappointed. If they don't want Ball (being reported), who else would they want that we have? I think Kuz, Hart, and BI fit the bill? Maybe future draft picks? Goodness. Makes you wish we had our pick this year...ugh.

Kuzma and Ingram are PERFECT fits for San Antonio. Randle is a very good fit for San Antonio as well. Hart is as perfect a role player as you can find so he'd fit in well over there.

Ball and his baggage might be the only kid that doesn't fit over there. :D

to match salary, anything would need to be a three-way deal that involved deng moving elsewhere. if they don't want lonzo, it would truly empty the war chest.

but if i knew when the dust settled, we'd have ball, leonard, lebron, and george, i'd sell everything. all of it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kawhi ended up with the Clippers, but I don't think that ends what we're trying to do over here.

If the Spurs bite the bullet and trade Kawhi there are only two paths forward that make sense for them:

    1. They try to get players they can plug in NOW to stay relevant along side LMA and a resigned Gay. But this path only works if Pop is going to stay and coach for the next 3-4 years. Maybe with his wife's passing he decides to retire and this path ends with the Spurs being stuck in the low seed playoffs with no hope for rings and no hope for the future.

    2. They blow it up and start a rebuild from scratch with Pop's successor. This path puts all the emphasis on acquiring young pieces to aim for relevance 5 years down the road. If I'm them, I take this path, and demand Ingram + Randle + Zu and picks. This gives them a solid frontline for the future to play with Murray and Anderson. I'm sure Magic would be willing to make that offer.

Yeah. I do think we have good pieces that can work in San Antonio. Just see Pop going the same route as Indiana.

Ramona says Boston and Philly have the inside track, but that's just her opinion no sources.
