The budget seems unsustainable. I don't think they can afford to pay everyone.

    gssalary.png gssalary2.png

If they just kept people but upped KD to about 30 mil, they are looking at 160 million in payroll.

While the Warriors will not pay the repeater tax during the upcoming season, it can help quantify the burden involved. For 2017-2018, Golden State is expected to have a total team salary just over $135 million, which produces a luxury tax payment of $30.3 million and a total player cost of $165.7 million.

All of those elements would still be in play if the Warriors face the repeater tax along with an additional charge of $16.1 million, the amount they are over the luxury tax line. So that $165.7 million figure jumps to $181.8 million without adding anything to the team on the floor for that extra money.

besides the big 4, if they stay healthy, they will have to have minimum level players for the most part to keep it going. That may work, but it's not a bulletproof model.

If you catch a team on the front end of this spectrum, you could have a VERY long run of success and keep all of your key people and not be in Salary Cap/Repeater tax hell. It's something his agent should definitely bring up. Pretty sure KD likes Walton too, but I'd have to dig for that.

    Here you go:
    https://www.lakersnation.com/kevin-durant-lakers-fan-since-luke-walton-hired-head-coach/2017/11/28/

Also lightly defended Luke against Lavar's criticisms:
    https://www.lakersnation.com/lakers...-ball-stop-criticisms-luke-walton/2018/04/01/

Personally, I think the Warriors should pay for the team as long as the pieces are willing to keep going. It's rare when you have an opportunity at a dynasty, especially with the way the CBA is designed these days. I don't actually fault him for making the jump to Golden State. When it's all said and done, all the majority of fans will do is count the rings. That he's about to get 2 of them over the best player in his generation will be used to his advantage as well.

No matter how you slice it, LeBron nor Kevin Durant won their first titles "by themselves" . They both made a career move, for their benefit, can't fault them anymore, titles are hard to come by. I don't know what's keeping me from fully liking the Warriors, but what I will give them props for is building that team organically. They weren't some super loaded team with superstars before they got to this point.

That's kind of how I wanted our team to be, so we could have longevity. But if adding LeBron or KD right now while they still have their powers means keeping a title away from C Bags, and us adding 17, 18, or even 19, I'm all for it.

The problem is that you’re overestimating our 09 squad a bit.

Take the superstar off that team. Do they still make the finals? Do they even make the playoffs? Even with Phil and a winning system? They’d be pretty much in the same boat with the Lebronless Cavs. The only real difference is that they would have Phil which would give them a chance, but to say they’d make it out the West is not very realistic. I mean you’re acting like our team never made mistakes or played bad.

The other big difference is that everyone on that 09 squad knew their role. Luke, Sasha, Mbenga, and Farmar knew their role. Odom, Bynum, Ariza, and Fisher knew their role. Kobe was the Superstar and Pau the All Star. When everyone on a team knows their role and what their called upon to do at all times and in the majority of situations then a team can and will succeed.

I don’t believe this is the case with the Cavs. Lebron is the superstar, everyone knows this, but no one else really knows their role. And it’s not for the role players to take over and carry the load in the crucial moments it is for the Superstar to carry the load and control the game; to close it out. This is why in the big moments this year, the Cavs have more often than not failed or come up short, because the role players were being called upon to do something that their role does not constitute.

Kevin Love should be treated like the All Star he is. Like an actual 2nd option. He is thrown in with the other role players and relegated to a jump shooter. The coaching staff should be running a “Lebron on the floor system” and a “Lebron off the floor” system so that when Lebron is off the floor the offense can still flow through Kevin Love and the other role players know what they’re supposed to do. This would help Lebron stay at around 32 minutes or so per game, but no, this coaching staff and the stubbornness of Lebron prevents this from happening.

Once again the majority of the Cavs woes has to be put on Lue and his coaching staff, then on Lebron, then on the players, but no one gets a pass in this.

I really don't think so. I never said they were one of the greatest teams ever, but they went to 3 straight Finals and were back-to-back Champions, that's a great team. I don't understand how Laker fans want to downplay that now so they can take a weird, ancillary shot at LeBron.
Never once said that team didn't make mistakes. They often had mental lapses during the season and they spent way too long f***ing around with the Rockets. They nearly let the C Bags get them in 2010 again after two years waiting for that moment.

And any team without their primary superstar takes a massive step back except for the all-time great teams maybe like the 80s Lakers and these Warriors.

Take Jordan off the Bulls. Take Isiah Thomas off the Pistons. Take Duncan off the Spurs. Take Bird of the C Bags. Take Hakeem off the Rockets. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I believe a team of Gasol, Odom, Bynum, Fisher, and Ariza (all in their primes) in 09 coached by Phil Jackson has a shot at the Playoffs over the Deron Williams/Carlos Boozer Jazz, the Chris Paul/David West Hornets. That 09 Laker team won 65 games. Only 20 teams have done that in NBA history. I don't know why we're selling that team, a team that won 65 games in the ruthless Western Conference, short by comparing them to a 50 win team in the East.
This is coaching. Has nothing to do with any single player. Not to mention, these players do know their roles, they're just not performing. I don't know why we're not only tearing down one of our great Championship teams but building excuses for career journeymen like George Hill, Jeff Green, and a cast of young players who have done nothing in the league. I like a lot of those players and I would have taken George Hill last summer, but why is anyone expecting him to be the 3rd best player on a Championship team? And why is anyone comparing him to Lamar f***ing Odom for goodness sake? Derek Fisher in 09 put up better numbers in the Finals than George Hill let alone Lamar Odom.
I'm not going to continue this one. We've agreed to disagree and I think we'll leave that there.
Kevin Love is being used just fine. His USG% of 24% is higher than Gasol's in 09 of just below 19%, was Gasol mistreated as well? Love is getting the ball all over the place, he's not just a floor spacer. He frequently is getting the ball in positions to attack on the post in switches and has had inconsistent success there. Is his inability to shoot well from outside somehow someone else's responsibility too? Hell for an All-Star big man, he's only shooting 43% from the field right now in the Finals. I'll give him credit for getting 21/11 in the Finals, but it's taking him 17 shots per game to get there? He's not cutting it. I don't see why anyone would make excuses for him for that. I remember Kobe being roasted alive for his shooting percentages. I agree Kerr is a way better coach than Lue. Lue doesn't deserve his role.
Seems like you're giving most of the players a solid pass for this. :D

The real blame goes on the Warriors. They're a way better team, but this Cavs team simply isn't very good. It's not even close to our 09 Championship level team.

As much I hate the idea, I'm convinced that the Kang will be a Laker next year. I would much rather steal Durant somehow and still get PG, that's the pipe dream that will never come true.

Also, it’s Chris Haynes of BSPN. Enough said!

I believe we are the top option and I feel very confident in Magic and Pelinka’s ability to close the deal.

See...when sirron tries, he does produce quality posts haha.

Lacob's bottom b**** is staying put from the sound of things...

And @tada, agree to disagree, cause the only biotch I see is Durantulame.

At least I'll give it to him for actually using his real account and not a burner to make such a bold statement.

If I heard this about Paul George I’d be bummed, but I’m honestly not when it’s LeBron. If we get a meeting with him and throw eveything we can into it, offer him the sun moon and stars, get down and beg the Kang to come here, and he says no, meh, oh well. Just means we don’t have to deal with his drama and aging for 4 years and we move onto the next plan, which hopefully is a longer term solution.

I believe he's saying "isn't as hot on LA" although like most people nobody knows how or where he came up with that.

Agreed completely. I want to be great again and LeBron is the easiest, best path to that end. If we give him our best shot and he chooses elsewhere, I won't cry about it. I'm perfectly happy if we come out of this summer with Paul George and Julius Randle as the big money makers. I think if we go that route, we are a playoff team next season and that's enough for me. If LeBron spurns what we have, that's no skin off my nose. We'll be alright.

(I still think he's got half a foot in LA already though. :D )

usually in the past the phrase "will get a meeting" would make me cringe because the dinosaurs mitch and jim buss would repeat the same old "look at all our titles" BS and scare every potential big name FA away

don't get that feeling anymore with rob and magic running the show because they know how to connect to this new generation of stars

I'll honestly be happy with just one of PG and lebron. I still think the lakers are lebron's #1 option, all the signs point to that. Philly is the only other destination that makes sense but it seems like the lakers present a more ideal situation for him

DeMar DeRozan? Kyrie Irving who I’m assuming spent one of his offseasons making an Uncle Drew movie?

If there's a team to compare these Cavs to....it has to be that 2007 Cavs team that got swept by the Spurs!

It was literally Lebron and....Boobie Gibson, Big Z, Larry Hughes, and Drew Gooden!
