I do feel like that. Should I jump in? Should I wait? Should I start a thread with the strong possibility that one already exists? <ChangingNameToNewbie>
Basically @tada and I argued about calling Paul George a "souped up" 3 and D player. In my opinion, it's a disservice to all the things George can and does do. In his opinion, it's not a disservice, just a representation of what George is good at. To my credit, he also referred to Durant as a souped up 3 and D player. So. I think I win.
I have a high opinion of Ariza, so it's not a knock IMO. George is better, but I don't want him as my #1 option trying to win a title (nor do I want Ariza in that role). But signing him legitimizes our team and makes other FAs want to join us. George is a star. He's just not an elite, top 5 or top 10 player. But he's in that 11 - 15 range that we can definitely use.
Paul George is just entering his prime. Iguodala has never been as good as George at his best, not even in his young years. The George we saw next to Westbrook is not really the real George, this is more of who he really is
100% agreed. He has shown he can be a #1 on solid Eastern Conference playoff team because he's done exactly that in Indiana but for a title contender, I think he is a solid #2 (or #1B). Just as long as the #1A on the team is not Russell Westbrook. I personally wouldn't be disappointed if the Lakers' offseason consisted of signing PG and keeping Randle. That team should be good enough to contend for the playoffs next season and the team should be able to finagle MAX cap space in 2019 and be a more attractive landing spot at that stage. For say, Kawhi, speaking of souped up 3&D.
This is a fantastic analogy. George is a better player than Iguodala was when Iguodala was 28 years old. However, in terms of "role" and impact on a team's culture, I can actually see George doing for the Lakers what Iguodala did for a young warriors team. Iguodala was 30 years old when he joined the Warriors in 2013-14. Steph was in the year for 4 years, Klay was in his 2nd year, Harrison Barnes and Draymond were rookies. Iguodala was a very good, veteran player that was valued to set the tone for the younger players. We're not taking Deng "mentorship" because Iguodala was a very good 2 way player and was capable of also leading by example.
I feel like there are still some folks in here who can not embrace the inevitable. I get it. Lakers have been the leverage stools for a few years but need not worry folks. Paul George is coming and the Lakers will be in the playoffs next year. What happens after PG is another story and the story I am eagerly awaiting to see....
love original too but the remake looks/sounds dumb, rolls are reversed now ,the wife is the poor one taking advantage of rich amnesia husband
I agree with everything besides reducing George to a 3 and D player. He's much more than that. I agree with everything else though.
I'm too lazy to dig it out, but yes. I said something like "saying George is a 3 and D guy would be the same as saying Kawhi, Durant, and Klay Thompson are 3 and D guys." You said something like, "well yeah they are 3 and D guys, just really good ones." And my brain exploded out of my eyes.
