if we strike out, i really hope the FO gets creative. i've said it before--and i still need to verify--but i think we can sign guys like lopez and randle to contracts that involve balloon payments up front, so long as we have the cap space for the first-year salary. http://www.businessinsider.com/the-okc-thunder-signed-nick-collison-to-an-ingenious-contract-2010-11 I think it's possible for the lakers to do something like this with both randle and lopez, which could accomplish many goals simultaneously (preserve continuity, retain flexibility, etc.). it beats the hell out of the two other extremes (mozdeng and eating dead salary for late 1sts). edit: i looked a bit, and i *think* it's possible to sign randle to a 4/60 that pays 24/12/12/12 or something close to this (sloppy math as i only have a couple minutes). the signing bonus rules are kind of tricky.
Hell ... 2 or 3 of em you mean. You do what it takes and get you that mega superstar. LBJ and George not enough with our bunch of wet behind the ears punk kids.
no. you hang onto a bunch of guys whose ceilings are substantially lower than the in-prime trade targets in question. because growth. maybe later, if they do grow, you can trade them for younger, less proven players so that you can be good longer. right?
Now you're coming with the you know the ceilings of these Prime talent mostly 20 year old players card? I expect greatness from all 3 of Ingram, Kuzma and Ball. They will be terrific and better than that at times next year. Next to LBJ and George on cost controlled manna for the next 3-4 years. That's enough firepower. Quantity and quality over more mature quality in one guy with a huge ? now.
oh, sign me up for the george/lebron and we keep everyone plan. i just think it's incredibly unrealistic.
One and Kawhi would be fantastic in my book. Sign and trade Randle, Zu, 1st and 2nd round picks DO IT.....ROB.
How much can we offer Lopez to return? We seriously need a starting C with all his skills now, I want him back badly.
yeah, market is pretty dry. with what we have left, he might take it and hope for a raise next year. pretty sure we'd have his bird rights back, right? would need to check on that.
Bring back the Lopez! Poor man's Boogie anyway. We still technically have 3-4 million left. Not a big check, but what else is really out there?
It’s funny and interesting how quick this becomes a reality. I mean I wanted him back, but now after Boogie, I want him back bad. Lol
So we have 3-4M left to address having a full size large center to deal with Embiid, Ayton, Cousins, etc?? Who the **** is going to handle those guys for big minutes? McGee? Wagner? Are they expecting Zu to step up? Is Brook going to take 4M? What the hell are we doing? Do we have any kind of "early Bird rights" so we could wait and then go over the cap to sign him for a little more for a 1 year contract?
