I'm in Davao, but head back to Texas on Sunday. Working overnight to be on US time for now. It's not much fun.

either that, or I'll be right on schedule lol

I'm ready to get back to work on a day schedule. Working nights I'm just not that productive. I end up on here (daytime US) and don't concentrate much on what I have to do. Good thing I'm currently self unemployed.

So Jules/Mintz wanted 12M a year extension from the Lakers and we said no....

    Last year: Started in 73 games, 28.8 mins, 13.2 pts, 8.6 rebs, 3.6 asts, 0.7 stls, 0.5 blks, 48.8 FG%, 72.3 FT%

    This year: Started in 39 games (so far), 26.5 mins, 16.1 pts, 7.9 rebs, 2.5 asts, 0.5 stls, 0.6 blks, 56.4 FG%, 70.1 FT%

Yet some of y'all think its insulting to have a starting offer of 12M and work up to 15M per?

Maybe I'm just bitter that I don't have the opportunity to run into more gracious people in the world like you guys.

When Pope gets 20 mill, it just seems relative to think he's actually worth more in that range.

Who is more valuable between Randle or Lopez? Lopez is making 20 mill right?

More than anything, I think fans want to keep the home grown guy who seems to be coming into his own. But business is business, and you start low. I'd start exactly where they suggested last year, and work my way up too. I just have a feeling that there will be a team like Dallas that will make that a very short conversation. Good thing we have the ability to match.

The fact that they were willing to sign that extension I think probably really indicates that Bobby Mark's numbers aren't that far off. Dallas might ruin the game, but it sort of makes me optimistic that Randle might give us a chance to make our moves.

Pope has less guaranteed money/years coming back. We bought a private line to 2018 LBJ free agency with that cash, with the added bonus of mannas falling from the sky and dude helping us turn around our last placed defense.

Brook was an expiring deal we traded for so that we can get off of Mozzies blood boiling deal.

Those contracts are oranges compared to the red apple deal we're going to give Bullyius.

You obviously know the difference and so should most Laker fans.

Jules isn't a max...not even close. 12M isn't insulting when you consider they were ready to accept it last summer.

Do.Not.Overspend. Let other teams do it and we'll be forced to match only if Jules accepts another team's offer sheet. But he and Mintz will have to know by then that we're going to immediately put that type of contract on the trade block.

To me it's all moot anyway.

The key to this summer is either trading for George or trading away Deng (or ideally of course, both).

If we clear enough cap space where LeBron and George can each have their max while we hold on to Julius's cap hold, then it doesn't matter what we pay Julius. We can pay him 4/100 million at that point, it doesn't matter. We've already won if we've got the other two locked up.

I don't think its moot at all.

Why would we trade Deng (attaching valuable assets) if all 3 guys were willing to shave some off the top? If all 3 want to get their maxes and take up nearly 90% of the cap in doing so, then Deng has to get moved since we'd need the cap to pay those 3 their maxes and would lose assets in the process which means we sacrifice our depth to compete.

You lock those 3 up to their maxes and we're top heavy just like OKC. We'd be a little more deep than that team (depending on what assets get moved in a Deng dump), but still if we want to hit the ground running with that team, we'll have to be deep so that regular season has LaBron and PG seeing low usage so that they're ready to go come the postseason. If we have to heavily rely on them to get to the postseason then whats the point of having 3 max guys on the roster.

Now consider that we'd be limited in rounding out our roster with 3 max guys cause we'd a tax-paying team, which opens up a whole other can of worms...restricted S&T opportunities and harder restrictions on all overall trades, limited amount of exceptions due to "hard cap", only lowered amount of exceptions available (tax-payer MLE of 5.4M vs non-tax payer of 8.8M)...loss of cheap labor (ie draft picks, young players on rookie deals via Deng dump).

I understand that we have to lock up the #2018Plan first, but we can't be shortsighted in doing so. Once that does come to fruition, we're going to have to find a way to compete immediately so that we can efficiently use up PG and LaBron's prime window. You need cap maneuverability/money to round out the roster.

Jules, LaBron and George shaving off the top of their maxes enables us to do that. That's in the Lakers best interest and again, that is all that should matter as a Lakers fan.

Apparently Magic and Rob did not see what I saw in Julius Randle. That would have been a steal.

Signing Julius for 12m or 20m isn’t the key point to them. It’s all the same really.

The crux of this whole thing is when they sign him and who they sign before him. Get Lebron and PG and you can max out Randle no problems. Don’t get them and it’s irrelevant to what we give him, we won’t be competing at that point.

Well Julius may have surpassed George in terms of his value to this team, and I don't agree to putting all our chips on the 2018 free agents. From that perspective, locking up Julius for $12M would have helped us immensely in the long-term.

How do we know we'd get this ver of randle once that contract is signed? Theres a high probability randle is showing out mostly due to this contract ext issue

I think he'll improve every year. It's just who he is. I'm sure the coaching staff will have a better evaluation than any of us though.

Yeah I agree tada. The story from his trainer was and Julius's sure given no reason to have any doubts all season long ....is that this new physically fit beast is going to keep right on working and it's a way of life now. Being married and settled and with a baby boy he's crazy about, I can't see him becoming a fat cat or slacker in the work dept going forward. My guess is he too wants to be great and dominate.

That could very well be true, George is a very polarizing player in my opinion and if Randle can be a consistent 20/10 guy with good defence - you very well have a point.

But irregardless, without an additional All-Star or 2, we aren't competing anytime soon, so what we sign Randle to is less important to Magic and Rob than when we sign him and who we sign before.

Julius was willing to accept an ext at 12M before the season started because that's what his value was at the time...

Now? We're looking at 18-20M to keep this guy. Like others have said, it actually doesn't matter too much though once we secure lebron and PG13...we can sign him to whatever at that point.

IDK how we're going to do this but I think the only ways are:

    1) LeBron, PG13 and Randle all accept less $
    2) We trade Deng + 2 first round picks and everybody gets paid.

Personally, I don't see Option 1 happening. Option 2 is a lot more likely once we have secured PG and LeBron. Plenty of rebuilding teams are going to pounce on the opportunity to get 2 first round picks and only having to eat 2 years of Deng's 4 year deal. The Nets took on Carroll this past year and got a 1st and 2nd round pick....the price for Deng likely is 2 first round picks and lots of teams are going to be down for that (a team like the Hawks will be prime for something like this since they're going to need to hit the cap minimum).

Also, watch out for the fricking Mavs. They're definitely going to offer JR a ridiculous deal. I just hope JR waits for us to get PG and LeBron...if you think about it...JR will get paid no matter if we get these 2 or not. So it's actually IN his best interest to wait it out for us and i hope MINTZ representing both PG13 and Randle can make this happen.
