The injuries this season have been ridiculous. I remember Adam Silver talking about having to find a way to reduce the load on our players. He said he really wants to get rid of back-to-backs and 4 games in 5 nights. It's a step in the right direction, and I hope it becomes true.
Cuban suggested extending the season into July to get rid of so many back to backs and 4 games in 5 nights. Can't say I'd be against that. They've got to figure something out cause this is bad for their brand. You have Kobe, Melo, KD, George, Westbrook, Rose, Dwight, Griffin, and Bosh. Not all those were due to the long season, but when that many franchise players are out it's bad for ratings and ticket sales. Not to mention it'd cut down on teams resting their players during the regular season -- like the Spurs, Hawks, Bron, and Kobe.
I remember us disussing this during the gameday thread the last time we played the Bulls. It was only a matter of time before Thibs broke Butler.
Adrian Wojnarowski ✔ @WojYahooNBA Portland's Wesley Matthews on his way to MRI, with Blazers holding significant concern about seriousness of lower leg injury.
Yikes, tough break for Wes. selfishly as a Lakers fan, I can't help but wonder if it'll drop his asking price this summer.
Injuries are being caused mainly by a lack of fundamentals IMO. You can't play 82 games a year jumping out of your gym socks.
While I completely agree with that statement... this Matthews injury doesn't fit that mold. The dude plays a really crafty, unathletic game and he still popped an Achilles. I feel terrible for him.
Totally agree on that point. I'd say about 85% of injuries these days are caused by overuse/strain on joints caused by either a focus on explosion without proper training or a lack of fundamentals.
Well, there's one potential free agent we need to cross off our list. If Kobe Bean Bryant can't return to full pre-injury explosiveness, Wes won't. Or...we could sign him and Brandon Jennings. Kobe, Wes, and Jennings...The can be De-Generation X cause, ya know, they're heels.
The major injuries are out of control this season. Maybe the NBA should cut down the number of games per season to 60-some.
I think the number of games should be lowered. 2 against every team, maybe 3 against your conference? That'd be 72 still.
72 would be better. Then maybe cut the number of pre-season games in half, possibly go back to best of 5 for the first round of the playoffs. That last one is a big maybe because I like 7 game series' and I don't like upsets when it's my team facing it lol, but the playoffs right now are friggin loooong.
The problem isn't the number of games, it's the way the games are played. We've been playing 82 games for a long time now and it's only recently guys are getting hurt every year to their joints. Why? It's not games. It's a lack of fundamentals, a lack of proper training, and an emphasis on athleticism instead of skill.
^^^^ Definetely true . Are there actually more (important) injuries than before though ? Maybe we think there are more injuries because more key players are getting hurt and/or we follow the day to day news closer with social medias . I read an article ( during last season I think ) which said there weren't more injuries the latest 2-3 seasons than in early 2000s and 90es
