Another strong game. In the post game they showed his stats for the last five games: 19.8 points, 9.6 boards, 5.6 assists 62% shooting. That's just outstanding. Yes, I know he needs to work on his free throws after this abysmal showing tonight though.
Solid game thought there were a few instances where he looked out of it when the call didn't go his way.
Some of those charging calls were suspect, but he’s built so much of a reputation that is almost automatic. He needs to develop some better footwork and control in the post, he needs to work with Kuz.
There was one with Stein standing in the restricted area that was an awful call, but I agree. His footwork in the post is still pretty rudimentary. It's surprising how he's able to get where he wants when he has few counters and isn't a threat to take a jumper. He's playing very well right now though. I'm glad to see him bounce back with strong efforts after he wanted a bit before the break.
i'll nitpick: anyone see the play midway through the first, when lopez got a post catch against a smaller defender, sac sent a double and randle's man was just floating, and lopez had to scream at randle to cut from the weakside (instead of standing there being useless)? he cut (too late), got the catch and got fouled, then missed both fts. this is why the front office isn't sure about randle, imo. that was a simple basketball play, and you could see how frustrated lopez was that this far into the season, randle wasn't just naturally reading that play. it's hard to play walton's preferred style when you can't read and react off the ball. it's also why i think thomas isn't long for the roster.
I think you're talking about the play at the 5:30 mark? I just rewatched it like 5 times. Randle is the one bringIng up the ball and barking at Lopez to get into position lol It was a good cut by Randle for a clear path to the basket, and no one seemed frustrated. Not sure what you're referring to?
sorry, lopez's frustration must have been on a different play (i re-watched, was going based on memory the first time). he was frustrated about several things in the first half, some of which had to do with the refs. the general play is as i remembered. lopez had to basically throw a leading pass and the timing was off, which is why it looks like the pass wasn't on the money. my opinion is that randle should have been cutting as soon as the lane parted like the red sea, instead of having to wait for lopez to catch his eye. those kinds of things need to be second nature in ball movement/player movement offenses. it wasn't an extremely important play, but it was an illustration of something i see happen a lot with randle and has happened his entire career. he misses out on a lot of easy buckets (that one in particular should have been a dunk) and makes it harder for other things to happen (because nobody's guarding him if he floats around the perimeter off the ball).
Fair point, but again, Randle would be an allstar and a max player if he had all the intangibles. He's been one of our 2 best players all year (him or Ingram). He's played less than 3 years and has got another 3 years of development before he hits his prime. Think about that for a sec.
I think about it every time I think of him STUPIDLY being possibly gone. And for the 59th time he is the one true tough guy on our team as far as confrontation and getting into someone's grill face to face. Not to mention he truly loves the physical and painful play under the basket.
I love his physicality. That play when WCS went flying was hilarious. I watched it like four times in a row. It wasn't a charge either as realdeal mentioned - WCS was inside the restricted area as Julius pointed out to the ref. I loved how he took his frustration out on the rim with that monster dunk posted by Weezy above. I just love Randle. He's fun to watch dishing out the abuse down low. Seriously, we haven't had someone who could send guys flying in the post since Shaq and I dig it!
The one thing he does which is not cool if he does it on purpose (often looks like it on replays) is crack guys in the face with his off arm elbow or forearm as he goes up for a layup or jam. Does that a lot.
How are ppl still complaining about Randle?! With each great game he registers...it makes me even more mad that we had him on the bench at one point playing less than 20 minutes a game!!! BTW we're 15-12 since Randle entered the starting lineup....
Waits for Vash in 10 ... 9... 8 .... 7 ..... with the numbers for his minutes breakdown vs wins early in the season. So yes not conclusive "by the numbers" but that's not what my eyes are telling me we were missing early on not having him at the 4 and starting next to Lopez.
I don’t think anyone is complaining. We’re looking at areas of improvement because he keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. That’s why you get benched, you gotta execute or else you get pulled. Happens to everybody, but Luke tends to have a shorter leash with Randle. But it’s the same thing every game, charging, not boxing out, hands down on defense, post footwork. Simple fixes that would really elevate his game.
I complain about everyone on the roster. My complaining about Randle has definitely dropped dramatically this season. I hope we keep him. I hope we sign PG, then we sign Kawhi next offseason. We'd be set for a great 5 year run.
Yeah, I think the results speak for themselves. Even with the occasional fumbles and charges, he's a net positive. We're a much better team when he's out on the floor.
Because he's been here longer than the rookies and Ingram, I feel its kind of glossed over that Randle is essentially in his 3rd year as a player and at the very least, 5-7 years away from his peak and hes already looking like a double double walking, muscling guys and sending players flying in the post. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think we'd sorely regret it if we let him go. He's going to be really really good in a few years.
