LMAO. You guys are going about this all wrong. You need to reverse your argument, agree with Khmrp, then he will reverse and argue your side. Sorry, Khmrp, I gotta have some fun with this one, I’ve literally never seen you say in an argument “you’re right, you’ve changed my mind/stance”. I could see you arguing that the sun isn’t hot and water isn’t wet.

:Laugh:I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I can’t help it, I’m rolling. You literally will argue your point to the death. I just don’t care that much. Even with WB, George, Melo, Roberson and Adams, the Thunder are screwed overall because their bench will remain garbage as they have no money to spend on it.

They made the trades knowing they'd have to pay taxes this season. They made the trade knowing it'd mean Westbrook re-signs for the long term. They made the trade knowing that in the end Melo could opt out (won't happen) and George could leave (could happen).

They did not make the trade with the plan to spend 150 million dollars just in taxes next season. They'll gut the team of high priced contracts if/when George re-signs. Once he's signed, they can do whatever they want to the roster in order to avoid that crazy tax hit.

I only argued the tax implication, whatever happens after that is of little concern to me. Again they have ALL of next yr before the trade deadline to possibly lessen that tax hit, if they get worse they get worse but you only have to fool PG once.

I agree here, I never said anything different, its a possible 1x hit, you take it and move on. If they get worse by getting off high priced players so be it but as long as they retain russ/pg going forward they'll recoup some of that tax hit later.

All that tax talk is moot! PG is coming to the Lakers. My next door neighbor's gardener knows people who know people in the FO ..... plus my own gut ..... and this is a done deal.

They'll try. And hopefully George understands that and understands that if/when they start selling off their high-priced players, it'll mean a weaker team with little hope of improvement beyond what they already have. They'll have to sell Adams at below market value. They'll have to find a taker for Carmelo. And then they'll still be a team that's flawed, not close to winning a title, and still at or over the cap with little hope of improvement.

Where most of us understand is: the Lakers just need to point all that out, point out their flexible cap space, point out their talented youngsters, and of course sell up George as the savior of his home town. Our flexibility right now is a major weapon. When you approach George or LeBron, you simply ask which direction they want to go and we go that way. No other team really has that ability.

Actually think he wanted to unload the Oladipo contract and that's why he did it. He got Melo to see if he could maybe sneak a title in before.

Clay Bennett's net worth is $400M. No sane entrepreneur will dish out more than half their net worth ($150M in taxes and $100+M salary) for a sports team.

It's not about being cheap. It's just not a smart business decision.

I thought the OKC cap hit to retain George is 250M?

the 150mill tax is absolute worse case for them, doesnt mean okc cant make moves during next season to aleviate that some n obviously okc not gona tell pg that. they just need to get him to sign 1st

also im not using this tax thing to say pg does this or that, i just think OKC knew of this pending tax n probably have contingency plans if they didnt then theyre really stupid

“She loves me, she loves me not,
She loves me, she loves me not...”

I heard someone say PG smiled today, I think that means he will be a Laker! Whoops, someone just said that was a grimace not a smile. So PG is not going to be a Laker. Damn!

right. the tax is most certainly an issue. it would be for any owner of any team. but it won't prevent them from making a full max offer to george, so, it's not really a point in the lakers' favor.

melo's deal is one year. if he opts in, they can probably move him pretty easily (good chunk of his contract, at least). they can move adams VERY easily (i'll take him).

i do think the writing's on the wall in terms of okc fielding a contender as currently constituted. when they moved for george, i half expected they might try to move him to cleveland at the deadline this year, turning that deal into a pretty clever salary dump (which doesn't look as good now that oladipo has proven to be more useful than they thought). but when they didn't move george, the signal was clear: they intend to re-sign him. and these aren't idiots. they know what the tax bill will be. they knew it six months ago. to think otherwise is pretty ridiculous. who knows what their grand plans are, but i know one part of it: they're going to throw the house at george.

now, real is right that the lakers can point out the difficulty of fielding a contender in okc given the salary issues. but the lakers don't have westbrook. or anything remotely close.

I've heard Olivia loves the weather in LA so PG is definitely signing with us. But... Natasha was born in Oklahoma, so he's staying there?

So after OKC guts what they have to with the rest of the team to not be stuck going forward with 150M in penalty tax so PG can "have" Westbrook and absolutely no quality depth left ..... this obliterates PG's consideration of playing in Los Angeles as the Man (assuming your LeBron to Houston happens) alongside the already remarkable assembled young talent of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Julius Randle and Kyle Kuzma who each will be getting better every single year as they approach the prime years of their careers. With deep roster talent coming off the bench by the time Rob and Magic are done this summer with not having to pay for LBJ.

All 4 of those players have star quality playing ability in their future whether all stars or not but certainly there will be all star appearances from among them as they hit their primes or sooner. This is not hard to see nor predict. Yet none of all that remotely compares to being Russell Westbrook's sidekick on a gutted team? Seriously?

Simply put, we're banking on PG's intellect to make the sound, reasonable & correct decision. His agent who happens to be Randle's agent as well should talk him through it that that decision is of course signing with US.

It helps that JR's contract is likely to be reupped if we're not getting LeBron. Make use of our 1st and 2nd round picks for a couple of decent to great role players with expiring contracts or others willing to sign for a year and we'll be set. We have a competitive playoff bound lineup while gearing up for 2019 FA.

If we make it through 2nd round, I believe chasing after FAs come 2019 would be great but it wouldn't be that necessary.

Ahmm... Wait, this is Optimism Thread right?

I'm content for my next comment in this thread to be in the off season. Anything else takes time away from hating LLLLLebron, and really isn't a productive use of my time.

Nope. That's too long. Not acceptable. Think of all the twitter comments you could not turn us onto. Think of all the humor we'd be missing from you being you.
