    i lived through karl malone; i'll happily live through lebron if it comes to it.

    i'd rather root for anthony davis or paul george or kawhi leonard, but beggars can't be choosers. and make no mistake: lakers fans are currently begging.

    LLLLL is having a hell of a season so far. The best season ever (so far) for someone over the age of 30. Possibly his best season ever if he can keep it up. He's in rare form, and the years of experience with still strong athleticism have met at their greatest point in his age 33 season. It's actually very impressive, and hats off to an all time great. The stats and impact he has on a team is undeniable.

    While he'll never have Kobe's heart and rip your throat out approach, there is no denying his place among the all time greats. That chart seems to indicate we're witnessing (yeah I used it) a unicorn year. Is it possible that it continues much longer? There is NO PRECEDENT for this level of play at his age. None. Zip. Zero. Nada. Do you stake your franchise future on it continuing?

    Except we're not staking the future to him. Staking the future is paying Anthony Davis the richest contract to date despite his inability to stay on the court and with no clear path to putting a team around him.

    In our case we'd still have most of the young pieces we have now (presumably the important ones) as well as one max level player. Even if LeBron started to break down we'd have contingencies.

    I think we'd be signing him with the thinking he could keep up what he's doing longer. You don't pay someone max money, and not expect production at an elite level. Otherwise, you end up having Dengish resentment.

    His durability has been impressive, but he's so incredibly dislike-able as a person.

    I absolutely agree, I'm just pointing out that the risk isn't awful. Investing that money in LeBron is the best way to use our available cash.

    I don't have to like him, but the guy is still the best player out there right now for at least the next season or two. I view him honestly as a Kareem-ish addition: a guy that brings gravitas and winning ability to a capable youngster (in this case youngsters). He may be past his prime when he comes here, but what he'll provide is invaluable experience, tutorship, and a map to winning that our young guys just haven't been exposed to.
