I like it, except when we have a guard pinned down low (I remember Hart and Clarkson specifically). But if it keeps us moving fast, I'm all for it. We have willing defenders. Embrace the challenge and get out running.
This is the way you have to defend in today's NBA , get teams out of their sets by switching , you expose the lack of players (lot of them) post up abilities by doing this too and giving up 2pts is better than 3 (as long as you don't have to double and give up 3 pts looks) Hart has very good post up defense position and is tough down there imo.
I think I know what luke is doing, making Randle look like a bench player, so that his market next year is small and we can low ball offer him. This could be from Magic and management...lol
Thought about that but nah lol. Think he likes the focus and having a stronger bench. Plus hes finishing games.
The idea in those scenarios is to blitz the big man with weak side help if/when he makes the catch. As we get along in the season, hopefully they'll make that rotation. We're definitely improving defensively. I've been as hard on Luke as anyone, but he's getting buy in now and it's working better. I'm still not happy it took two weeks into the season for him to get his rotations down.
I'm going to give Luke some credit. I loved the fact that Kuzma was the first guy off the bench tonight. When the starters were doing their offensively challenged thing he provided a much needed scoring spark. Also, Luke has the guys playing some pretty decent defense out there. There were a few brilliant stretches there both from the bench and the starters to get back in the game and then to take the lead at points.
Credit where it's due to Luke: that last 0.7 seconds play was drawn up to perfection, Kuzma just has to knock down the shot. If you look at the play Luke drew up, Caldwell-Pope is actually wide open for a split second because the Blazers ran a three-point line prevent zone which was weird. However, the defender quickly covers the distance to KCP. Ingram flashed up to the top to fake the ball and screens Lillard. That left Kuzma wide freaking open and he just has to knock down an open look. The real story though is that Luke trusted Kuzma with the last second shot. Think about that! Kuzma was our go-to scorer to win the game. Great sign for the Lakers and great sign for Kuzma.
Starters yet again falling behind to start, luckily the Kuzma substitution provided us a nice spark. Our defense in the second half was really good, part of what got us back and leading.
Luke is doing a good job. People wanted to cut his head off after the first 3 games, but we have a lot of new guys. We are actually starting to look like a borderline playoff team. It rakes time to develop chemistry, especially when you have 5 new guys in the main rotation. Ingram is starting to look good. Kuz might be an all-star. Suddenly things are looking up and Luke is parr of that.
