I would say we should have traded for George when we could have, but I honestly don’t think Indy would have traded him to us. They were looking to trade him anywhere but here, they were pissed at us, and they weren’t going to give George what he wanted. It probably would have taken Ingram and the #2 to get George, and I don’t think we could do that and pass on Ball with the risk that George could still walk in the offseason. We’d have had to have some sort of back channel guarantees that LeBron and Westbrook we’re leaving to come to LA next offseason if we were going to sell our future away like that.
..... meh..... the first time he's out in one of these he's going to think WTF?? And set his sights on coming home to the Lakers.
Or maybe magic didnt even make an offer or a respectable offer? Last rumored report, la didnt even make an offer

i think ingram and deng gets it done, personally. maybe add a late first for the butthurt. word was pritchard wanted to "win" the trade. that would have sufficed. and we'd have won.
I don't think there was any trade where Indiana was going to send us George that wasn't completely unreasonable. Ingram/Deng may have been fair, but I don't think they were going to do it.
I agree with Weezy and Real that Pritchard was being ridiculous but your deal may have gotten it done. The thing to me at this point is that with all the stars who got moved over the summer, I can't help but wonder if we could've gotten someone else had we been willing to entertain offers for Ingram.
pritchard was absolutely ridiculous, but the word was (consistently) that he was peeved we wouldn't offer ingram or the #2. i said at the time, i'd do it if deng were attached. i think it could have happened. and i think we would have had a great shot at chris paul had that first domino fell. we'll never know now, but we have to sit and hope that bad things happen to other teams so that we're not terrible for another several years.
Word I've seen is he was peeved we tampered and that we were on George's short list so he wasn't trading with us no matter what we offered. I also heard we never made a solid offer until late in the game and even then the offer was something less than what most of us figured (Randle/Clarkson/2 1sts).
Well I've heard the package we offered was something more like Clarkson/1st or Randle straight up. If we made a legitimate offer, it was a low ball offer for sure.
Yeah. I never agreed with the decision to make Ingram untouchable. I honestly didn't think anyone should have been untouchable but I would have understood hanging on to the pick to draft Ball.
if you're trying to give me more confidence in current management, you're failing! that's awful. and speaks again to my general point that there was some serious bungling around draft time. you don't force paul george into a trade demand if you're not going to try to trade for him. you just drove your FA target into the arms of a future long-term partner. i said at the time and say now: everyone is touchable on a 28-win team.
Something to keep an eye on: so far the Thunder are positively featuring Paul George. He played more minutes than anyone for the Thunder this preseason. The Thunder went 3-1 with Paul George leading the way playing a total of 125 minutes in 4 games (averaging 31.25). He also lead the team in FGa with 63 through four games. The next closest was Carmelo Anthony at 59 shots through four games. Interestingly, Westbrook took just 28 shots in three games which would be an extraordinary change from his play last year. Paul hasn't been particularly efficient at just 39.7% through four games, but that's not really the point. OKC is doing everything they can to feature him in their attack, even scaling back Westbrook's responsibilities. If that keeps up, it's just another factor going against us next summer. For what it's worth his averages through four games: 20.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 0.8 blocks, 3.3 turnovers, 41.4% 3PT, 82.6% FT, he finished with a net +4 on his plus/minus.
So it's sort of like trying to get your dream girl to break up with her fiance by getting a buddy of yours to sleep with her?
