Problem is there's no real news or even rumors to report. Last I heard 5 teams had made legit offers for Irving, but none of the teams or players offered were mentioned. Then I saw something like Gilbert said he expects Irving to be in camp, because I mean he's under contract. The media the one slipping here, how do we not have details of what's going on?

yeah, i just think it's sort of a huge deal from many angles:

lebron's very important teammate ditching him
player taking control of his career before circumstances trap him in cleveland
player estimates his value above what fans/media believe in a public way
25 year old team usa guy and iconic finals performer set to switch teams
the signal that this means lebron is on the way out

just lots of really intriguing storylines here. and maybe you're right: the media seems to be sort of taking a pass in ways. but so are the fans. i just thought this was a fascinating situation.

i mean, word is that they want a vet starter, a good player on a rookie contract, and a first round pick? aren't there, like 20 teams that can do that? what's the right price? does playing defense matter anymore? does having a drinking problem matter? is this kobe or is it what the media said kobe was (wrong, dip$%&!)?

edit: new swear filter word: dipS*$%

I feel like the media (ESPN) isn't quick to jump on anything negative regarding LeBron. And if ESPN doesn't jump on it, nobody else will. Steven A Smith is on vacation so he hasn't been ranting about it on First Take, so we've lacked those sound bites. He wrote an article for the undefeated and had 15 mins or so of audio on it, but that's it. Windhorst only reports on LeBron, not Kyrie, so he isn't playing this up.

Seems like NBA news kinda does not long after summer league, ESPN reported on this initially, but it didn't go anywhere. It's possible Kyrie isn't as popular or certainly as news-worthy as he thinks he is. Or, since word was he secretly told the Cavs he wanted to be traded a week before it leaked out (calling the Cavs situation "peculiar" after he had asked to be traded already), and LeBron was the one to leak this, maybe nobody really cares about LeBron in late July. I sure don't. People were way more into summer league and Lonzo Ball than LeBron, Kyrie and the Cavs being a mess. Hell I found the video of Steph Curry mocking LeBron's stupid (shaved head) workout videos way more interesting than this.

I think people have been hearing LeBron is out of Cleveland after this season, so maybe this wasn't so shocking. Like if LeBron had just signed a 4 year extension to stay in Cleveland and then this happens I think it's a way bigger deal, like crap, what do the Cavs do now, you can't get equal value for Irving. At the same time before LeBron got to Cleveland Irving was a loser with nice stats, so it's sorta meh until he leaves and actually makes his stamp out there somewhere else. It's also Cleveland, like eh, this is Gilbert, this is Cleveland, they're a mess, it's not surprising. They were a mess before LeBron, they were a mess when he was gone a few years, and they'll resume being a mess whenever he leaves again. If not for him that's one of the least interesting franchises in history.

I'm sure this will heat up over time though. As soon as we hear some real trade scenarios for Irving the news will be better, and if he's actually traded it will be a big deal, because depending what they get back that could close their title window. And if he ISN'T traded, the drama will go on all season, every single game, it has the potential to be great. I think what's also hurt this is other stars have been traded for peanuts, Cousins, George, Chris Paul. Irving is different because he has like 3 years on his deal, so in theory you SHOULD get more for him, but I don't see people expecting that. Like Phoenix has made Josh Jackson untouchable. For Irving? Really? Seems a bit much to me for a franchise dying for a star, Irving paired with Booker could be something special.

isn't it also strange that we've had five teams named who made an offer, and cleveland's asking price has been named, but there's been no leak of the contents of those offers other than "not josh jackson"?

you're probably right that media treatment of lebron looms over all this, but you'd figure someone would break ranks. maybe this is the new world order with woj joining espn.

That's right on the nose for me. I forgot to throw in probably our last great source leaker is now a LEBRONSPN employee. We have to sit back and wait on Broussard and Chad Ford's sauces, and apparently they don't really have any.

Well an Irving-CP3 swap could have probably been done, just saying.

They can offer Austin Rivers, DeAndre Jordan, and perhaps multiple picks

If I'm Cleveland, do I really care where Kyrie wants to go? 2 years left on the deal. Get the biggest bang for the buck?

Wasn't CP3 upset about the Clips not being professional enough?

I 100% agree. I owe Kyrie nothing. Whoever offers me the best package in the NBA gets Kyrie. If that's Sacramento, then so be it. I hope Kyrie likes Old Town Sac. He can run a tour with all the visiting elementary schools.

No, if you're Cleveland, you don't care. He doesn't have a no-trade clause, so he doesn't get to dictate where he goes. The only reason he probably goes to a team that was decent to good, is that only those teams have the pieces to trade for a star like him.

Wonder how he'll react if his son IS traded... Read reports somewhere that some players did not like how Austin Rivers was receiving preferential treatment.
