Gonna echo what most have said. Much better showing from Lonzo but of course he could and should still improve. A little sloppy passing that could be cleaned up, passing up great looks in the lane and that outside shot all need work but he looked much more comfortable today.
Well it depends on what you categorize as a #1 guy. I don't think Zo will average 20 pts but I think he can do 14-15 pts. You can't really put a stat on how he runs a team maybe by +/- or wins
He looked even better than his statline would indicate. He had a lot of hockey assists and just did a lot of little things. There was one possession where Hart brought the ball up and was gonna initiate by giving to Zu in the post who had good position. Hart hesitated and gave it back to Lonzo, almost like he felt he had to because he wasn't the PG. But Lonzo just immediately fired it back to Hart who still had the good position to throw it into Zubac. I don't even remember if the play worked out but it stood out to me as a savvy thing Lonzo did to keep Hart in the flow of the game.
Lonzo Ball is NOT a mistake. Triple Double, tempo control and some sensational passing and great rebounding demonstrated why he was the number two pick and why many of us can see great things for this kid at the helm of the Lakers. He's going to need some other suberb players around him though for us to have success. But for the doubters I think this was a good showing of what he brings to the table.
I said a modern day PG "should play" like Lonzo. Not the other way around. He's the next generation PG mold taylormade for the GSW/SAS system. Jason Kidd, career 12.6 ppg scorer. Bust? A "huge glue guy" is a star point guard.
for a 6'6 guy coming up court will a full head of steam he's got some nice moves straight to the basket if he doesn't like his target choices or just as a fake-out option on the break. Very Magic-like in that respect.
There were times in the game that I thought I saw Magic. Well I did literally, but Lonzo's passes to players beneath the rim was Magic-like lol
Think that's nitpicking a bit, Kidd in his prime was a 16/6/10 player basically, with elite defence at the PG position. Our FO is describing Lonzo as a transcendent talent, so expectations are high unfortunately.
Damn shame some people can't appreciate what Lonzo is doing because he's not a "scoring" point guard. Ridiculous. Dude makes the right basketball play. He's capable of scoring, but he's also capable of reading defenses, throwing passes to spots of the floor that most can't see, constantly moving the ball, making sure everyone is in their right place, starting transition opportunities, throwing passes on time and on target, and getting countless easy baskets for his teammates. If that isn't transcendent them I'm perfectly fine with Lonzo not being a transcendent talent. Give me the guy who makes his teammates better and is a leader on the court over guys like Russell and others who can score points, but couldn't dream of being the leader that Lonzo is and making the high impact he has on games.
Yessir. Just wait till he plays next to Ingram,Jc,Randle,Lopez,Brewer,Nance in the regular season. Heavy minutes with those guys...and starts knocking down that 3. When he plays next to George, Ingram, and another max guy...
Very good feel for the game and he's no ballhog , he will fit nicely with dominant wings ( these are the players who win you titles 9 times ouf of 10 , not point guards) Not pairing him with DAR in the backourt is a huge mistake though , they would have played off/help each other a LOT
Two things I look for in a player.. are they fun to watch and do they bring us closer to championship contention. A huge yes to both..
Combo. Entertainment off the court as well haha. God I hope ESPN/Spectrum interviews him at every game lol.
Magic didn't become a "scorer" until he was asked to. Lonzo is trying to get the follow going making the right passes and being that "glue guy." I think he could be more aggressive offensively, but as the primary PG, his role is to initiate and execute the offense. Whether the shots fall is out of his responsiblity, but he's making the passes to the wide open players.
