Yeah, he was playing very well the first quarter. Hustling again, bullying a little in the post, some monster blocks. Saw a glimpse of zublocka again. But, then he was having to go out and guard Semi and he's not quick enough.
These kinds of games (like G-League games) are hard for players like him to really be showcased well. Athleticism and ball dominant guards thrive in this environment of glorified pick up games.
Waaaaay better game from Zu tonight. Yes he wore out, but for a while out there he looked impressive. Back to his old self which was great to see.
Yup. Glad y'all are joining the bandwagon. You got big SFs playing C against Zu at times. Takes him out of rhythm easy and that kind of ish wouldn't happen in a regular season game. Well take the flashes. All we need him to become is a serviceable starting C to hold it down until we go small then he comes out. Talking down the line future.
Doesn't look slimmer and more mobile than last season ... Got talent but difficult to play in today's NBA
He didn't look good tonight either. The guys who played last year, other than BI, have looked like crap actually. I do not know if they are showcasing the rookies and free agents more, but right now the vets in summer league look bad after 2 games.
I have been very disappointed by Zu in these two games. He looked better last night, but still very far from the kid he looked like last year. He's struggling holding on to the ball, he's not attacking in the post, and he doesn't look like he's in good shape. He's missing that edge he showed last year. He looks comfortable and I don't like it. He should be dominating the same way Ingram did and I'm glad Ingram called him out on it. There was a time Zubac said he wanted to be a modern day version of Kareem. He better get back to work then. He was taken out of the game on offense by Ojeleye who is 5 inches shorter than him. Of course then Ojeleye made Zubac look absolutely terrible defensively by drilling 3 or 4 threes on him in pick and pop situations. Zubac's ability to guard the pick and roll/pop is a major concern going forward. He has pretty slow feet and if he can't find ways to use his length more effectively, he'll never be as good as we want him to be. Not to mention, when he finds a small guy like Ojeleye on him, Zu should be punishing him with hook shots in the post. Shoot over the top of him again and again. Force the C Bags to put someone bigger in the game.
i think the lack of improvement on his body is a concern. the slow feet were always going to be a problem, but i keep thinking of marc gasol's defensive impact and hoping it can be overcome. i've seen enough good from zu to know that this isn't representative of his ability. the question is why? i would say he looks like someone who took it easy over the summer, but didn't lopez just state the exact opposite? could be psychological--it's a lot easier to perform when nobody expects it (like last year).
I think part of it might not be taking this seriously enough. Ingram came in with something to prove to himself. I think Zubac came in thinking he's better than this and so he didn't come prepared. He definitely doesn't look like he's in the sort of shape the other young cats look. Randle we've seen be very public about it, Nance looks slimmer when he's shown, but Zubac doesn't look obviously in better shape than he did last time we saw him.
