Yup, I really don't care that he missed some open jumpers in his first summer league game. It looked like nerves, not a broken release. Once he gets into rhythm and adjusts to the NBA 3, he'll be fine. But in what was apparently his worst game, he still had 5 assists and showed that infectious ability to make the simple/correct pass. He wasn't really even used that much as the primary playmaker. He'd bring the ball up, quickly make the right pass to get the ball moving to where it needed to go ... and then it would just stick in the hands of Vander Blue or one of the other dudes trying to make the team.
Oh you mean like calling him the savior, taking us to the playoffs etc. When he didnt play a single nba gm?
Lonzo looked like he was playing a zone while the others were in man to man. He also was playing Marshall on his right side. He knows he's a lefty, right? No offense to lefties, but they can never go right. The shots weren't falling, but big picture, I thought he was fine (minus the defense). Passes are crisp and right in the sweet spot. He didn't look nervous. Minus Zu, the 2nd year guys always play a lot better than rookies. The difference this year by Ingram and Buddy Hield was night and day from what they did last year. Same for DAnfelo last year compared to his rookie year.
Ball hadn't played a 5 on 5 game in 4 Months. Had a terrible shooting night, but looked promising in most other aspects of the game.. He'll be fine.
Up court passes led to some good easy shots.. that is where his worth is.. stats will come in due time...
There's running up hills in 100 degree Chino Hills heat and some hardwood wind sprints and then there's basketball shape like LakerFanIam said above .....and no 5 on 5 games in almost 4 months. That'l affect his % as well. Plus 1st game jitters, if he ever truly gets them. I shot like an all star in practices but that more often than not turned to poop when I'd get winded. Didn't know what I didn't know.
i agree that controlling pace is an underrated pg skill, but jud had to get on the team for not keeping the pace to their liking last night. i'm curious to see how things go tonight. last thing you want is lonzo pressing to put up stats, and i think he won't do that. i don't expect fireworks, but i expect a better showing.
I want to see more of Kuz and hope he starts tonight against the C Bags. Will be a welcome to the NBA physical kind of test. Let's see if he's a big baller. We got to see Wear last night.
He's the third guy I saw defending the kid. Clarkson and Nick Young were the other two. I think the kid needs a game like that anyway. He looked a step slow and uncomfortable out there. Hopefully he reacts well to a little adversity tonight.
Kid deserves criticism, but we got a spammer already calling him a bust among those that are already doubters. This comes with the hype and I think it's good he got off to this start. Hopefully he responds well.
Criticism is fine, he shot 2-15. You must be better than that as the #2 pick, let alone to be a rotation NBA player. But calling anyone a bust after 1 summer league game is ridiculous. Some people were saying the same stuff after Ingram's first SL game last season too, like oh my god he's too skinny, he can't shoot, terrible pick. I remember some said the same about Russ' first summer league too, he missed a lot of shots, had the turnovers, wasn't as quick or athletic as some others, instant bust talk. Bottom line, of course criticism is ok, but patience is advisable with rookies, always.
So if he shot 5-12 it would of made that much of a difference lol. Silly talk. I wonder who starts at the 2&3? Hart and Nwaba? Dunno wassup with Dozier.
