They could do Bradley/Crowder/Smart/Rozier or Bradley/Crowder/Brown/Rozier maybe instead or keep Rozier out of it and include Mickey/Demetrius Jackson instead. Bradley/Crowder/Brown/Mickey/Jackson for Gasol works financially. Memphis retools their whole roster that way. Maybe instead of Jackson, they get Zizic too which would at least give them a big man prospect.
But then they have only Thomas as a guard. Hayward and Brown can't play sg. Brown can't shoot and Hayward is a little too big and slow.
Hey you asked how they could do it, what am I Brad Stevens? It's not my job to coach the team and figure out lineups.
boston should have tried to move zeller's guarantee date to use him in trade. guess ainge isn't a super genius after all?
though i keep forgetting that boston had to operate under the cap to be a threat for hayward. hence their hand was forced a bit on zeller. still, if they could have found a way to hold some things until they got a firm "yes", they could have maybe operated over the cap and done a sign and trade. in any case, i do think ainge keeps getting hamstrung by having too many good players and not enough great ones. pair that with an unwillingness to consolidate these good players step by step, and you just start losing assets for nothing. they still have plenty to go get a marc gasol via trade, but not without giving up things that matter to them. in short, there's a limit to the number of assets one can acquire and utilize. this isn't the business world.
