It all depends on what the Lakers are able to do with Deng. If they can clear Deng, Clarkson, and probably Randle too off the books, they could easily bring Brook back for a cheap-ish salary while still getting two max deals. I don't recall that ever being the case before with expirings we brought in.

If they can shed the entirety of Deng's deal (attach a couple picks to it next summer), get rid of Jordan for some protected picks, and then either waive or trade Randle for picks or whatever, they'd have only about 25 million on the books next summer including cap holds (after waiving our Bird Rights to Lopez).

That means we'd have 75-77 million or so to spend. If you add George at about 29 and a 10+ vet (Westbrook or LeBron) at 34 million, we'd still have 12-14 million to spend. Does Brook Lopez take a 4/48-56 million dollar deal to stick around with George and LeBron and Lonzo and Ingram? Brook could probably get close to twice that on the open market if he stays healthy all year, but with who? Going back to Brooklyn? I wouldn't say it's out of the question for Brook to not stick around. What would push Brook out faster is Zubac and his development, but if Brook stuck around for 4 more years that'd still only leave Zubac at about 25 years old when Brook expired again. Perfect timing to jump in there and be the guy.

I think he would take that deal, could be wrong though.

For this offseason we have to find away to get rid of Clarkson's deal or Deng, then next summer get rid of the other.

Standing at the 3pt line, we know he's not gonna get any offensive rebounds, but I don't get why he doesn't pull down 8 defensive rebounds a game.

Probably should get more and I'm sure they will have him trying to get that mindset. But I read something else a couple days ago that said part of the reason is that wherever he is when the shot goes up he does a pretty good job of making sure to box out and keep his guy away from the board, rather than focussing to go after the ball. Don't know if that makes sense or not. One thing for sure though is Randle if still here and Ingram are going to have a **** load of room to operate with Brook being able to bomb from deep. So maybe more and easier "beasting" on the boards from Randle again?

Hey, if Lopez boxing out results in Randle averaging 14 rebounds a game then BRING IT ON!

Thats just an excuse people use for poor rebounders, some fans here used that same reasoning for Mozgov poor reb #s

It's not just an excuse, it's at times a reality. Good team play means sacrificing statistics for the greater good.

In Lopez's respect though there's really no excuse for it. He shouldn't be averaging 5.4 rebounds a game no matter what the situation is when he's that big and playing that many minutes. Randle (assuming he's still here) better average 14 rebounds a game or we're in big trouble on the glass. Although to be fair, Lonzo and Ingram are also very good positional rebounders. Hart is an elite rebounder for a SG.

Do we have Brook's Bird rights now? So if say PG and LBJ both come as FAs he could be signed afterward and go over the cap with him?

NBA needs to get rid of that sneaky bs. Especially when you have all the smaller market teams constantly complaining that its hard to get good...when its really hard for everyone. Not a fan of the luxury tax...open up the cap along with a player spot or two and call it a day.

If I understand it correctly, we do have his bird rights but he has a sizable cap hold. We'll need to renounce his rights to have the available space for PG + FA.

Precisely. That doesn't stop us from signing him again, but we'd still waive his Bird Rights.

I like him, but I don't think he's going to be here past next season.

Brook could shoot 40% from 3 this upcoming year. Theres still Cj Miles,Waiters and Tyreke Evans who shot almost 45% from 3 last year.
