In this case Hayward or Lebron. - You can play for the glamour franchise of the NBA - Other LA business/marketing opportunities including being at ground zero for Hollywood to have a career after basketball in Tv/movies - the weather, beach, LA lifestyle - Look at all our championship banners - we want to retire your number in staples one day If any of this sounds familiar, it's the same pitch Mitch/Jim used on Dwight, Carmelo, and Aldridge. Magic and Robert will just do it with a more enthusiastic tone and a smile.
fair enough but I'm tired of these "2 max fa" in 1 yr plan, yes we have different planners but when there's a chance at players of Hayward lvl you have to at least try, I dont know what is pitch is for Hayward unless its beyond just winning, maybe he has business venture he'd want to explose post nba career, what better way to do that than in LA? Not great example of successful post nba career but look at our Sportsnet anchors, like Jamison, Rob and Fish...just role players but still landed tv gigs because of being former Lakers. I've read some where before hayward does want the big market appeal for other purposes.
The other key too is that we've now got a young group of players people are more excited about. Randle was only half-way interesting. Russell (and the Lakers too) hurt his own value and wasn't consistent enough. Ingram is legitimately interesting and Ball is a guy that I think has a lot of people's attention.
I literally just heard on the radio that his wife might be looking for warmer weather and a bigger market for her own reasons. I'm not saying it's not a good pitch, but how good is it? He's going to a worse team for sure than he's on now. It's a really, really tough sell to get a FA today without seeing what Lonzo is and taking a leap of faith that Ingram and Randle and Zubac take the next steps. That's an incredibly tough sell.
I disagree. Think they'll have a lot more to pitch than Mitch or Jim did. They'll sell the fact that this free agent can be the man for this team. The player to lead the Lakers back from the dead essentially. Be able to play with two great young talents in Ball and Ingram. Have the ability to play with another star free agent of your choice. Playing for a good coach who will run a system conducive to getting quality looks offensively.
I agree with Real. At the end of the day, PG is not going to give up so much coin while in his prime and sign an extension. It just doesn't make sense. I know I wouldn't do it because one could be an injury away from not being able to play anymore. Take the money when you can. So, if Boston won't trade for him unless PG signs an extension then there is nothing to talk about. It will not happen. One other thing... there was a post where someone (I think Real) showed that Boston would have to gut their team to make it work. Does anyone think a gutted Boston team even with a very good starting 5 would get past the Cavs or Warriors? I watched the Boston/Cavs ECF and Boston looked completely over-matched. A gutted team is supposed to close the gap?
All these reports. They're slowly turning from concerning to hilarious. They're trying so hard to create some smoke when PG gauntlets are raining down on them, all of them! It isn't about other teams convincing the Pacers that the offer is good, it's about convincing PG that their team is good enough for him to sign an extension. We got this people. It is a familiar pitch, but I agree with realdeal on us having more interesting youth this time around. Yeah I'm just not sure I see a way or reason for him to sign an extension. If he does, then hey it is what it is. If he's willing to put that much money on the line to have a shot at winning, then he never had enough reason to come here. We're talking a massive amount of money potentially. And like you said, is Thomas/Hayward/George/???/Horford enough to beat the Cavs or Warriors? I don't know. So he's supposed to give up tens of millions of dollars for a team that's not good enough to win it all? Hey if that's what he does, more power to him. All that we can do is continue to roll out the red carpet for him. Clear out Deng somehow and we're looking at some massive spending power. Get rid of Clarkson and/or Randle and we've got nearly enough for two LeBron's financially.
Thomas is coming due on a contract. Boston, if smart, will not give him a max contract. Someone will.
Then you lose him for nothing probably or trade him out for something too... Who takes his place? Rozier? Smart? At least one of them needs to go out in the George deal to make salaries work.
So are the PG rumors of recruiting guys for the Lakers in 2018 hype or worth the seriousness. I think if true that would be the greatest confirmation that he is one and done. Pacers need to swallow their pride and complete the deal with Magic.
It's as real as any other rumor we've heard. In the end I trust only a handful of sources on this stuff: Nate Taylor, Sam Amick, Ramona Shelburne, and Woj.
Well to be fair, everything out of George's camp has been that he wants LA and only LA. If Boston pulls the trigger on the trade, we will see how real that is.
Yes. I believe that Boston believes they can make a run at this outcome. Woj does not say anything about George actually signing the extension.
