Lonzo's cadence reminds me of Shaq minus the humor.

I think he'll loosen up over time

Shaq had two personalities. He'd give the mumble and the funny outspoken, depending on his mood.

The decision just has to be made. It seems very calculated to talk like that. Quick couple of sentences and boom I'm done question over. Don't give the press anything they can possibly twist. Athletes tend to get that way over the years after being burned a few times but this to me seems like pre-emptive choice.

EDIT. OK now at my computer and watching his interview with Serena. I shouldn't have spoken so quickly. It is not like yesterday when handling the formal presser. Definitely a little more open and engaged in the conversation. Of course having Serena do the interview could be part of the reason with all her energy, good questions and so damn cute.

I do too. The kid clearly has a sense of humor, he just needs to open up. How many of us were 19 year olds with cameras following us around? I'm okay with whatever he's got going on as long as he can prove himself on the court.

I think that's legitimately his personality. Kinda like Kawhi. He's a robot lol. Lavar probably brainwashed him into being the perfect PR athlete since he was a kid :D

It really is crazy how good he is at so quickly responding with the most generic and safe answer. Like as disappointingly boring as it is, it's still impressive for a 19 year old kid. And that's why he needs Lavar. It's kinda like Key and Peele's Obama Anger Translator sketch.

But his personality will shine on the court and that's all that matters.

I've watched some interviews of Ball...he's just not outgoing type. I reckon his teammates will find him easy going and likeable amongst themselves. The thing is that cool under pressure and unflappable demeanor might not be for some fans who want fire on the floor or theatrics for the sake of it.

Good comparison. But at least I can understand what Lonzo is saying. :ShaqOh2:

Give me the cool under pressure, unflappable same expression, "been there before" persona on the floor over ice in my veins, primal screaming, chest thumping, look at me(ing).

It's really not that big of a deal. If the kid does what his last name is then who cares how he talks to the media?

It was the first game against Houston at the end which is what I remember but you could be right...

I've really enjoyed Lonzo's cool demeanor last year at UCLA and now with the media spotlight on him as a Laker. I find it refreshing. He's not going to talk a lot. He lets his game do the talking and I prefer that to some of what bugged me about Russell. Too much talk. Just play consistently - that's does more for me. We'll see if Lonzo is able to do here what he did for UCLA which was to elevate his teammates' game from the moment the season began. I think he will.

You made the same comment on draft day about Russell's tendency to yap. His odd personality stood out to you. Agree odd personalities are fine if you can be consistently great. Last cat who had that was 7-2 and had a hell of hook shot.
