we'd have to renounce his FA rights to get rid of his cap hold to sign both Pg/Lebron, he's not going to be settling for MLE money.
Not true. Lopez just needs to sign for less than his current salary, maybe in the $15 million per year range, to free up enough space for two max contracts. That's assuming we've traded away Deng, Clarkson, and Randle without taking back salary in return.
took Russell to dump Mozgov, it'll take Ingram+ to dump Deng....Magic should get a 2nd statue if he dumps Deng without using Ingram
So just find 32 million in expirings and someone to take Deng's galactically horrible contract while off-loading 2 more of our top 4 players. I could see it taking both Clarkson/Randle to get a taker for Deng but finding a player(s) with the expirings alone would be a feat. I would much rather let my 2 super stars, whoever they may be, attract some vet mins and/or use some exceptions than give Lopez 15 mil.
And Butler and Cousins were just traded for average assets. You don't know what it would take. We could attach two 1sts to Deng. Randle and Clarkson Can be traded for protected picks.
then why didn't they do that to get rid of Mozgov? Would've been better than using Russell...and we know the general idea of what it takes after Russell deal, even UNPROTECTED future 1st wasn't appealing to other teams to take on Moz by himself.
Because they also didn't want Russell and they got back a good player in return. We've been over this a lot the last few days.
I doubt that, it was the only way. 2 future 1st would've been easier to swallow for anyone, even if you're Magic/Rob that truly hated Russell you dont give up that kind of asset unless you absolutely forced to....IF deng could be dumped with 2 1st it would've been done already.
Sac owner Ranadivé thinks Buddy Hield is the second coming of Curry. And Vlade won't argue with him. So the Pelicans got a deal. Things like that happen, just got to keep your radar out as a GA. There was no lousy contract in that deal either so it's not the same thing. Just because one player is overvalued by someone doesn't mean all will be.
So you'd rather give up 4 future picks? What are you even arguing at this point? Magic did not want Russell. End or story. Magic turned a kid he didn't want into a better player and a pick while dumping a long-term contract. You want more proof Magic didn't want him?
My argument is, regardless of how mgmt. felt bout Russell, it still took a recent #2 (with still star potential) to dump a lesser contract in Mozgoz compared to Deng, thinking it only takes 2 future 1st, when the reports that even 1 future UNPROTECTED 1st wasn't enough just to dump Mozgov, isn't realistic. I said it would take Russell/Ingram lvl asset to dump those 2 bozo's when they started sucking, I remember you scouffing at me then too.
And again you're valuing things only in a way that validates your argument. It was not a straight dump. The Lakers got a pick AND a good player back. So two unprotected picks for Deng? With just two years left? I'll bet you cash that it would work next summer. Cash. Two unprotected picks for a guy you only pay for two years? Easy money.
IF Lopez comes back next yr I'll buy that Lopez was asset, thus far based on what mgmt. wants to do in 2018, he's just an expiring to them
