Sounds like BS. Why would George sign an extension right now? Would be a bad business move for a guy who hasn't gotten the huge, massive contact yet.
This is what worried me. Horford/Hayward/George/Thomas is about as good of a situation PG-13 could ask for if he were going to a team not named the Lakers. Granted he should play out the year for a shot at a Supermax
This is an extreme route, but why can't PG just ask for a buyout? LA pays him whatever he loses out on and then some? He makes like 19mill, even if he settles for $10, I'm sure we can give him a 1yr deal for 15mill and then he can reup after season over. I dont like that tweet bout Bos though, if they manage to sign Hayward, I could see PG being more likely to accept going there and Bos willling to give up Tatum/fillers
he can only get the super max from Indy, if PG is saying he's not coming back regardless I dont think he cares about super max anymore
They could give up more than fillers even. They could do Crowder, Tatum, Smart and maybe the Lakers pick next draft. That's a nice haul for PG-13, and Boston still has Brown and Brooklyn's pick next offseason.
This is the scenario I was afraid of from the very beginning of the PG to LA rumors. Indy didn't have to trade PG despite that being the narrative pushed by the media, and the Lakers certainly didn't have to give any major assets to acquire PG when he could walk for nothing to them next summer. Neither side blinked, and now the Pacers are likely seriously considering the once unthinkable option of trying to retain PG with a supermax contract. They could still trade him before the start of the season, and maybe they have been told by a team like the C Bags that a PG trade could be a backup plan if they can't sign the player they want, or a PG trade will be the second domino to fall if they sign some other free agent first. I think the soonest we see a PG trade will be the first week of free agency, and if nothing happens again, then this will drag out until the start of the season or beyond. I doubt Indy has any plans to take an offer from the Lakers which now does not include any draft picks, so the only way we get him is when he walks next summer.
A buy out for star in his prime. Why, that would be unprecedented. Now if he really wants to, he can say void my 19M, tear the contract up and don't pay me lol
Any news mentioning PG signing an extension is FAKE. Pacers can try harder of manufacturing their own leverage. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
care to revise your statement? IF that report is credible, it means george has told boston he'd agree to an extension if they signed hayward. should have moved when we could.
not a "star" perse but crazy butt Marbury agreed to a buyout when he was in his mid 20's and he had like almost 3yrs left on his deal with the knicks, this is during the time he was eating vasoline and airing it on the net lol
And give up assets for a guy who has told everyone who'd listen he plans on signing with the Lakers? Yeah I don't see how that makes sense at all. Pacers could be just as easily floating this out there to try and gain leverage when they have zero.
Desperate time calls for desperate measures. And that's what they are, desperate. I'm fine where we are. I'll give it a week more. Then I'll panic. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
True, but at the same time, where certain "rumors" didn't make sense, this one is very logical. PG-13 wants to win. He can go to a team that has an opportunity to compete now for the Eastern Conference title AND if the get a little lucky with that Brooklyn pick next season, for many years to come. It's going to be more than a week. Free Agency doesn't start until July 1.
I disagree. If PG wants to win now, then joining the Lakers this season was never the right move for him. We could have lost him for nothing had we traded important assets for him and had another poor season. I'm fact, I won't be that down if we miss out on PG since he is already in his prime while most of our potential stars are years away from developing. If PG wants to sign an extension with the C Bags and try to win now, then good luck to him, and we will develop our own players similar to what the Warriors did with their draft picks. Remember, the Pacers made it clear that they wanted our #2 pick or Ingram for PG. I'm glad the Lakers said no and did not give into pressure, even if it ultimately costs us PG.
boston is the only team i worry PG will end up with and NOT end up leaving if they get hayward and end up trading for PG they'll be set to compete with the cavs. no way PG leaves that team after one season
the point is that if this is true, george was bluffing and indy and boston called it. i don't really believe teams use the press to gain leverage. that's for fans, mostly. they use agents (who then use the press to their end). in this case, if the lakers are worried, they can just call george's agent and ask him if the report is true. it can't motivate their behavior. it would take one d****** gm to be sitting there on twitter and be like "oh s***, i gotta make this move now!" again, if george keeps his message constant, i don't think there's *too much* to worry about. it's if he doesn't. then we're screwed. and yes, you'll wish we gave up the 2nd pick.
The problem with this is it seems obvious that the people actually in charge of making decisions don't agree with you.
I refuse to panic. Until that deal is made and signed, if I'm the Lakers I stand pat. There is so much smoke twirling right now but there's a few things that are incontrovertibly true: 1. The Lakers refused to part with Ingram and Ball. This is important. It indicates not only a strong, clear, line in the sand, but it shows the Lakers have a path forward even if it's going to take time. We're all desperate for wins, but we're getting so close to the turning point that we're losing sight of the forest for the trees. Even without Paul George, we're in at least the same situation we were last season which is a positive one compared to where we were two years ago. We have a number of talented young players that can be moved to create space and bring in veteran talent and we're going to have a product that's interesting to watch. 2. George hasn't been traded yet meaning Indiana hasn't had it's doors blown off by an offer. If the #3 pick was in play from Boston, why wasn't it traded last night? If that's all it took to get George, Boston would have already made that deal and not looked back. Either it wasn't offered or Indiana is asking for more than the #3 pick and that's not worth sacrificing for the Lakers or for any other team. That means any rumors from either camp are leaked for a reason. It's no coincidence that Boston's name was thrown around leading up to and during the draft. It was a massive blitz of a smokescreen by the Pacers in order to force us to panic and give up our pick. The Lakers didn't blink and that's great news. We could have freaked out about George going to our direct competitor and given up the farm, but we didn't. Now there's going to be many more rumors over the next few days and as they trickle out it's vital we stay strong. 3. George wants to come to Los Angeles and his time in Indiana is more or less over. Pritchard made it clear the relationship is gone and there's no way that George is sticking around all season. The key now is whether George's agent continues to push the Lakers narrative. We've gotten all these reports about teams trying to make a play for him, but there's been absolutely zero reports that George would stay there. Hell it was reported that he told Cleveland he wouldn't sign an extension there. With LeBron James still on the team! Until I see a report from Amick that George and his agent are cooling off on their "Lakers or bust" streak, I'm not going to be concerned about it. We have to remain patient in this process and vigilant in what we're going to sacrifice. I want Paul George as much as the next person, but it's entirely possible (maybe even likely) that the Pacers keep George out of LA this season. We have to just have faith that George comes in the off-season. It's George and his agent that have told us not to give up the farm for him. If they then go to another team and he signs an extension while we're sitting on assets, so be it. That was a marriage never meant to be. We'll have to find a new way forward. Somehow though I doubt George looks around, sees LA with the potential to add him AND LeBron, and doesn't at least give us a shot next summer.
If PG signs an extension to another team not (LAL) as part of a trade deal then I'll never watch any NBA game ever again. That's how sure I am he's that HELL-BENT of joining us. We'll see. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
