Right. You want to get rid of Russell? Fine. Hell get rid of Randle, Clarkson, etc etc for all I care. Just make sure we aren't getting fleeced and bring back good value. Doung it like this. Meh.
Yeah I think I'm going to post a little less until things calm down a bit. When the smoke clears I think we're going to look fine. As of right now we're far from the disaster some fans are seeing. Good luck guys! Hopefully Paul is ours soon.
Yeah, just like we were fine when the smoke cleared from the midnight Mozgov signing last season. Sometimes s*** is just s***, can't polish that turd. That contract was so bad it cost us the 2015 #2 pick to unload. I think to unload Deng someone would have to sell their soul. If we get George for Clarkson and picks I'm happy again. If we get him for Randle and picks or even Randle and Clarkson I won't be thrilled. If we don't get him we are in for another 20 win season.
I don't see anything indicating Magic and Rob caved under any pressure. I think that's just supposition because people don't like the trade, but there was pretty clear evidence that Luke and the team had a problem with Dlo's attitude long before now, and it's been out there that other teams didn't want him prior to the trade. Lakers fans took that as hating, but apparently, it was true. Magic and Rob have been saying from day one that they would bring the Lakers back and that included having a winning attitude, and signing super stars. Mozdeng's contracts hamstrung that goal, and Russell's attitude stunk, so they killed two birds with one stone with this trade.

My faith in them has been rattled with all that has happened in the last 24 hours. I'm not ready to call for their firing just after one bad trade, but if the Lakers overpay for PG when we can sign him outright next off-season, then I will definitely hop off their bandwagon. At this point, I'm hoping the smoke clears and the Lakers acquire PG by Thursday without needing to give up the #2 pick or Ingram, and preferably without giving up Randle as well. The rumors currently floating around concern me regarding a possible PG trade, but if they turn out to be just smoke, I will breath a sigh of relief and certainly be open to seeing how their cap space plan turns out next year.
I do think that if we don't get the PG-13 trade done before the draft, he isn't coming until next offseason, if at all. If we use the picks at 27 and 28, unless they turn out to be studs, we won't be able to use them in a trade in all likelihood.
It's gotta be something along the lines of DFish's insider hints. Nothing else makes sense. From a statistical / analytical perspective at his age he would hold much more value.
it's also not a proven group. everyone loves to throw dirt on kupchak, but his good moves far exceeded his bad one. since he's been dismissed, we've made two bad moves and no good moves, imo. sold low on both lou and dlo, and both looked like mild panic to me. got two pretty useless (it seems) picks out of it and cap space a full year out. ^this. again, i've long suspected he has some serious off-court issues. what i don't understand is if they're serious enough that EVERYONE knows, how has the media not sniffed it out? teams won't give the 9th pick overall for a guy who's produced pretty well at his age in a straight up deal? it's got to be serious.
Let me clarify. My major complaint about the Russell trade is the timing, especially when it amounts to mostly a salary dump when we don't need to do so until next year. I'm not opposed to trading Russell away, and I agree there were serious concerns surrounding his character, but I don't agree with selling while his value had basically reached a low. That's where I feel Magic and Rob may have given in to pressure. Woj had reported that originally the Nets were talking with the Hawks before they decided to trade with the Lakers. I speculated that this may explain the haste in trading Russell now instead of later, since it's well known the Lakers needed to dump Mozgov and Deng to sign two max free agents next off-season. I freely admit there is no proof the Nets pressured the Lakers into giving Russell or else they would trade with the Hawks, but if the Lakers overpay for PG, it would definitely establish a pattern that the Lakers prefer to trade now rather than later, and that they don't mind paying a premium to do so. I understand it's best to stay optimistic, but I am struggling to convince myself that all will turn out well given the rumors and smoke swirling around. As I said elsewhere, I will reserve judgement until the PG trade materializes, and I plan on refraining from any further Magic and Rob speculation until they make more moves.
If Magic and Rob wanted Dlo off the team because of attitude issues, there would be no keeping him to raise his trade value any way you slice it. It meant the Lakers FO didn't value him much, apparently other FO's didn't value him much from reports, but he needed to go.
I think it's obvious getting rid of Dlo was about getting rid of Dlo. I think leverage and panic have nothing to do with it. They wanted Russell gone. It just so happen they could get rid of a worthless player and get a good center and another 1st to boot. Lakers eat s*** for a year and then have George for nothing, or they get him now, either way, they win.
If that was the case with Dallas willing to give up the 9th, then that's really disturbing if the salary dump was the caveat that barred us from getting a higher pick and not about Russell himself.
This is what I'm wondering. I also know he has maturity issues and to repeat what KRL said *shudders*, he DOES seem like a Gen Z entitled brat. But there have been lots of people in all walks of life who were able to push through that and come out normal adults. So this tells me that D-Fish Man's insider info might have some weight. But if that's the case, how is it not in the mainstream media? Russell lives in a city where TMZ is headquartered. If there are SERIOUS character issues, why doesn't everyone know about them? All the bloggers apparently knew something was wrong (granted its coming out now which is a little Ding-like). I just can't buy that his personality issues were soooooo toxic that you don't take another year to try to work them out. He's only 21.
I sure hope we don't use picks 27 AND 28. We don't need 3 rookies, and we don't need 2 from the bottom of the first round barrel on guaranteed contracts. If we don't trade the picks for George we need to trade both picks for a higher pick and just take one solid player.
