the fact that indy has started shopping him already makes me worry that the FO will overreact and give up valuable assets to acquire him so that he doesn't end up in cleveland or boston. i don't see him leaving in FA if he ends up in one of those two places

deng/mozgov+28 is the only trade offer i'd be willing to make right now

I bet you anything Indiana is upset they didn't trade George last season when he was worth more

I'd rather not give anymore future picks, protected or unprotected.

Just an FYI on PG13 and Cavs trade scenarios -- the Cleveland GM's contract runs out in 2 weeks. Very rare to see a GM's contract go to the last minute and be re-signed. So I'm thinking he's on his way out, unless he can hit a HR.

That should be our opening offer. No way Indy bites on that.

Then the real negotiations start, and eventually end with the real final offer of Clarkson or Black, 28th, future first rounder

The thing I don't think enough people are talking about is that if PG and his agent are being this direct and blatant with forcing PG to LA, why would they allow a trade with another team to go down without clearly trying to kill it with the other team? I doubt they'd just sit back and watch it happen, especially when PG has been so up front with his intentions to come to LA.

That is 100% part of the game. George and his agent have crushed all other suitors.

I'd offer JC + Deng or Moz their pick for PG13 + Al Jefferson

This might have been brought up before in this thread (still haven't gone through all of it), so forgive me if we are talking in circles here, but why would we give up anything more than one of our bad contracts (Deng or Mozgov), the 28th pick and maybe some future second round picks? To me we have all the leverage here and it doesn't make any sense why we would give up any of our good assets for someone who will likely come next year. The only real other team out there that can be player in all this is CLE, but i'm still not convinced that a team of LBJ, Kyrie, and PG (i'm assuming they give up Love) win 7 games over GS next year.

Because we will have too many guards at that point if we don't get rid of Clarkson, and if we wait, their is the possibility Indy figures out a trade somewhere else (yes I think it's unlikely), and to ensure PG doesn't get enamored to resign with the new team he's traded to... and it's one more year to wait, if we don't have to.

But the flip side to that is, we trade for him and include Clarkson, he bolts next year, ala Dwight Howard and we get nothing in return.

And I get that some people think Clarkson has peaked and will likely be the player he is right now for the rest of his career, but that's still a decent player we are throwing away for a one year rental.

Why are so many so cavalier with Julius Randle? How about Nance instead if you must give up something of more value than Clarkson, including Clarkson? If you must, how about Clarkson, Nance, Black & 28 max package, give PG to us now. Leave Randle and Zubac, Russell, Ingram and #2 out of this. Even that is probably way too much, yet more than anyone else is going to offer.

    hmmm...two firsts and a starter...

the 28th, future lotto-protected (in perpetuity) pick, mozgov.

    done.

and they're not getting randle or nance unless they're getting no picks.

if i'm rob/magic, i'm willing to throw bones, but i know i've got the upper hand, and i'll indicate my offer will shrink over time.

What's stopping us from offering him the new contract immediately, since he wants to come to LA?

Nothing, but I don't trust PG enough to take him at his word that he truly wants to come here above all else. People can be finicky. Plus won't he be eligible to make more money if he doesn't sign the extension and opts for FA next year?

If he loves LA, he'll come in 2018 in an organic way, if that makes sense.

He's a Laker fan at heart, loves magic, is currently working out with Kobe, and his agent represents 2 of our Lakers. He's staying till he retires once he comes.

Now that seems like a risk to me now that things have changed and Indy knows they can't just wait around.

I actually like Clarkson a lot off of the bench, but I consider him and the 28th very low risk, high reward for PG.
