Lol naw, but the bulls certainly built one great team through trades, the draft, and free agency. That team was still a 47 win team without him and 55 win the next year. One of those years they were mere points away from going to the ECFs. Then they added Rodman and Jordan...

I still have Bird above LeBron. Smarter, better leader, better teammate, MUCH better shooter, better passer (yes), better rebounder, and MILES better in the clutch. LeBron has him by far on the defensive side when he is motivated and not taking plays off.

I think the consensus will be that Lebronze will be considered the best SF to have played when he hangs it up. I'm going to be honest here though and I know what this sounds like because he was a C bag, but if I were choosing a team I would take Bird before Lebronze in a heartbeat. He was a truly clutch player, frustratingly so obviously as a Laker fan. He had more skills and more IQ than Lebronze and he was a KILLER. Lebronze is not a killer. So yeah, I'm with Kingsama and TIME all the way.

I hated Bird, he was sooo so good, it was frustrating. I lived that in the 80s, he was the only player I wanted injured during his MVP years.

Bird talked all sorts of smack too...and backed it up. Then talked some more afterwards. LOL.

James though is considered as the best player at the 3 already. He maneuvered his career very well.

...well, I only reserved such sentiments to the likes of Ainge, McHale, M.L. Carr, Maxwell and Laimbeer.

I had meant to post before game 3 but got busy. Then before game 4 but didn't get to it. Now I am glad I didn't get the chance to because the Cavs won game 4. Off topic, I'm glad W's didn't sweep because of LA's record. Although, I would of found Lebron getting swept hilarious. Alright, to the point.

I started the original LBJ thread on CL because I wanted to call out the hypocrisy surrounding the greatness of Lebron by the media and fans. I was called a hater or Kobe-homer at the time. What I said then I still believe now.

Lebron is one of the most physically gifted players to play the game. If that was the conversation I would say def one of the greatest of all times of speed, strength and overall skill. In that list I'd have Shaq as #1, Wilt #2(if the stories are true but I have never seen Wilt play), Lebron #3 and Malone #4. I am sure others have a different group but I'd say Bron is easy top 5 physically gifted players to play the game. Now, if we talking about GOAT overall player then he isn't now nor has he ever been in the discussion to me. The stats are amazing. The finals runs are amazing. The overall skill set is amazing. And the front-runner, choking, lack of clutch and excuses for his failures are even more amazing.

Lebron has always been a stat king. Until Ray Allen hits a dagger 3 Lebron had continued to disappear in the 4th and OT games in the playoffs. It was laughable. Game 7 of that series was the first time I personally felt he stepped up when it mattered and didn't rely on his teammates to carry him. Carry him with all his stats? Yes, Lebron James is good to great to amazing in the first 3 qtrs of a game and then hopes someone else takes over in the 4th. Until that game 7 he never, again from my view, lead his team to coming from behind in the playoffs especially in the 4th. He quits. We, as Lakers fans, often scolded him on that until that game. The media had a million reasons Lebron was either making the right play (when he passed the shot off over and over again) or was tired (cause he went 0 for whatever in the clutch). I know the name Booby because he went crazy in the ECF and Lebron got his first trip to the finals. I personally think Chris Bosh should of been the MVP when the Heat won because he made shot after shot and play after play for Miami. Of course, all we heard was what Lebron was doing to make that team win. He benefited from having Wade and Bosh who did step up in the Finals. This year he has Kyrie who is a cold blooded player that Lebron needs to take over when it matters. Look back at the history of his runs you will see every step someone else stepped up while he disappeared.

When it is all said and done I believe his career will be re-evaluated and the truth will be seen. An amazing player that feasted on week competition, that disappeared in the clutch and needed another player to carry the load for the "kill" in the clutch. He is an average defender and above average help defender with high basketball IQ. He is a great player.

I would not put Lebron before Magic, Kareem, Kobe, Shaq or MJ for sure. Like others have said, I'd personally be hard pressed to put him over Larry B as well. That is even if he wins this series which I don't think he will because simply KD is taking him to class right now.

The best player in his prime? Between those two, I would say Bird.LBJ is just indestructible and an athletic beast

When it comes to that question for me it simply comes down to "do I fear the player as an opponent"

As a Lakers fan I feared Larry Bird. He had the ball I knew he could and probably would kill us.
I feared seeing Ray Allen or Reggie Miller catch the damn ball out around the 3point line especially late in games.
MJ and Kobe (although he was on our side) any time of the game
    Shaq because he is shaq
Nash, yup steve Nash, when he was with the run and fun suns was an assassin.
Even Paul Pierce during the C Bags big 4 run.
AI, Isiah (bad boys) , malone (and stockton). etc...etc.

I could go on with the guys who on the court I could go, "Damn it, don't let him have the ball" when the game or the money was on the line. I have to this date never feared Lebron. That doesn't mean I don't think he is a bad man on the court but I simply don't fear him when it matters. All those guys I listed I bet anyone of you can come up with a play or plays he would make to win a game, put a dagger in the opponent or simple abuse someone with when it matters.

Ray Allen- Corner to elbow 3
    Reggie- 3 anywhere at anytime
MJ- Corner turn around or elbow/freethrow line jumper
Kobe- Same or pull up 3
Shaq- Back down, spin move dunk or baby hook
Nash- dribble, attack tear drop, straight way 3 or dribble, attack and pass open 3
Paul pierce- step back elbow jumper
    AI- Crossover attack the rim
    IT- attack the rim
Malone- baseline turnaround (pass from stockton)

Each one of those guys I'd go damn that is going to be money. Lebron is better than most of that list as an overall player yet I don't fear him at all.

Look at Kobe's SuperTeam -- 3 straight Finals / won 2 of them.

Trivia: Can you name the 3 drafted in the top 5 ?

I feared Bird too. Probably more than any other opposing player since I started watching (1981).

Good job. Crazy that those are the 3. Bynum went 10th. Not sure if we had any other in the top 10.

Man, Sun Yue and Mbenja. Josh Powell and Ammo! The way people talk it makes you think Kobe was playing with Wilt and Kareem and Bird off the bench.
