Why do these networks keep putting this mentally ill man on the air? Sure, he is delusional and watching him is like watching a dumpster fire, but it is hard to take a sports network seriously when they continue to give coverage to someone who's greatest life accomplishment is living vicariously through his legitimately talented sons.

If I recall correctly, ESPN radio was the where his 15 mins of fame started. I had heard about him from watching UCLA games throughout the season but didn't expect him to be this much of a character. I think LA710 is going to have him on tomorrow morning again to talk about the shoes.

If he's sold somewhere between 200-495 shoes (LaVar's claim), that's 100K- 247.5K in just shoes. He's probably sold other merchandise as well. Have the shoes been out for a week yet?

If that's a dumpster fire, I'd like to be in that dumpster. I don't like LaVar, but there should be a little more respect for what he's trying right now. If he's failing, he's failing upwards.

Absolutely. And if his son flops, all this is for naught.

But if his son flopped, he wouldn't have made any money either way so... at least this way he's in charge of his own destiny.

Caught the tail end of Lavar on ESPNLA710:

Would you call Kobe for advice?

"I don't need advice from Kobe."

He went on to say "if Kobe's at practice and sees something, then sure give him advice, but we don't need to call Kobe."

Then he said something about how they're different players and how Lonzo will be his own kind of player so Kobe's advice isn't really necessary. That to me is the first thing I've seen in regards to direct Lavar-to-Lonzo interactions that I'm unhappy with. There's no excuse for not improving. If you're your own guy, then great. That doesn't mean you cant take and use the advice of another person. Truly strong and intelligent people can take advice from others, use it, and then adapt it to themselves. The reality is Lavar wants the credit for his son's success and having another voice in the room diminishes that voice.

Sad. Hopefully Lonzo gets out from under this thumb.

Kobe helps the players that come to him for help. Kyrie, Westbrook, Kawhi, etc. IT recently, Kobe even gave him props for having the balls to ask.

You want Lonzo to get drafted by the Lakers and you're already alienating one of the greatest basketball minds? The greatest people are the ones that constantly seek advice from those that have done it already.

I agree with the point that Lavar wants all the credit for his kids success. But that's an arrogant and poisonous attitude. I like that Lavar is supportive and trying to break the mold with the shoe deal but there's better ways of doing it. You're doing something wrong if people are already rooting for Lonzo to fail before he has a chance to prove himself in the NBA.

I was on the Lonzo Ball train early on. The more Lavar opens his mouth the farther from that train I get.

I still like Lonzo, but I do wonder if his dad will keep talking once the real games start. No GM or coach wants to put up with that and being in LA could make things worse.
