Trade Thomas? Yeah that makes no sense at all trading one of the best players in the league in his prime.
Of course it does. There's a good possibility Thomas wants 25 million a year and there's a good possibility that he's not worth it. Might as well trade him before that either outcome becomes clear.
Conley got what 30 million? Thomas is a better player. Dude has been a legit MVP candidate and he's the #1 reason for their success along with their coach. One of the best players and closers in the game right now. If Boston doesn't pay him they're fools.
How bout defense? Wiz has been exploiting him all series long...tonight finally paid off, everyone IT switched on lite him up or setup someone else for easy buckets
i really like thomas and am still mad that the lakers passed on him when he wanted to play here for peanuts, but at the price he's going to demand, he's not worth it. if boston pays him, they probably topped out their roster as it stands right now, which is like, the 6th best team in the league.
Conley's big contract doesn't mean Boston will want to hand out another one. Right now they're in a unique position of strength being competitive with high draft picks. Their best move would be to capitalize now, move some assets, and use cap space to build a strong contender. Instead they'll probably let Thomas walk in FA, squander their picks, and be content to be an average team.
I can't believe what I'm reading. In a world where Timofey Mozgov collects $15 million, Isaiah is worth $25+ million. Probably much more.
Yeah. I get Thomas is undersized, but the dude is putting up monster numbers in a pretty efficient manner. Take a close look at that roster. Brad Stevens is a really good coach, but that team is EXTREMELY mediocre other than Thomas. Without Thomas shouldering the scoring load, that's like a 35 win team. So should they not pay Steph Curry either? I mean, Cleveland essentially ran at Steph in the Finals last season and it cost GS the championship. People have undervalued this kid for far too long. It won't happen again with his next contract.
IT has s bottom 3 DRAM rating...not saying he isnt great just wouldnt want to be the team paying him 25+mill and conley is overpaid too, hes also great just not deserving of being highest paid player in the league
Are you willing to bet 100 million dollars that Thomas can continue this? I'm not sold and at the end of the contract he'll be 32 making 28.5 million. I'm not saying Isaiah isn't great or hasn't had a great season. If he finishes outside the Top 6 or 7 in MVP voting, I'll be surprised. The value of Isaiah though was getting him on the last contract, not the next one.
I don't follow the logic of "Mozgov got way overpaid, so PLAYER X deserves this much". The Lakers made a mistake with that contract. Other teams aren't going to be in a rush to do the same. As for IT specifically, you can't hide him on defense. He's undersized and gets routinely torched. He's been spectacular offensively and in the clutch, so I'm not saying he's a bum who doesn't deserve max money. I'm simply saying he's going to get paid max money and I'm not sure I'd want my team to be the one on the hook for that because of his obvious limitations.
Last time I checked, Mozgov was regarded, by the vast majority of posters here, to be paid market value, and not overpaid. IT is one of the Top 5 offensive players in the league. And he's the most clutch player, while filling up the arena with his electric performances. If poor defense devalues a player significantly, do players like Nash and Harden deserve less than the max too?
Again though, I even said he's going to get max money & deserves it. I can just see a lot of reasons why you don't want to tie up $30+ million/year in a guy with his obvious limitations.
beware small scoring guards approaching 30. that's my reasoning. i'd pay him 25 per for his production this year, defense be damned, but i'd be very worried about being hamstrung two years from now.
The previous regime wasn't going to figure that out about I.T. Their strategies were in line with thinking Mosgov and Deng was the way to go.
not exactly. they wouldn't have signed the mozgovs and dengs that year. they were going star or bust in those days. there is a middle ground that would have been better...
