Nabbing George without giving up Russell or Ingram and getting rid of Deng, would be quite the move for Rob.
It's funny. The Pacers boards have us giving up the top 3 pick, Russel and Ingram to get the talks started. I mean, I honestly think the truth will be somewhere in the middle.
Honestly, I think it' going to be top 3 pick, Russel, and Deng or Moz. I think that's a a fair trade for both teams if the Pacers are blowing it up to rebuild.
Now think how the move would look for indiana's new GM, he would get crucified if that was his first move.
Oh I still think it will be the top 3 pick or Ingram along with Deng but if we can pull off a heist I'm all for it.
I'm not giving up the top 3 pick AND Russell. It's one of those and a combo of other guys. Those are big trade pieces. If we give up Russell for PG we need another pg and the top 3 pick could be that player, or it could be traded separately for another all-star. Top 5 picks can usually land you something really good when attached to some other decent pieces. The top overall pick landed the Cavs Kevin Love. I'm not giving up one of our 2 best young tradeable players in Russ and Ingram AND the top 3 pick. If that's the price, PG can make his way here next summer.
I don't see why we would give up all that. We have leverage and we should avoid giving up too much for George. He's still a rental and we don't want hate cupboards even if we get George. Then we're in the same place as all the other teams including Indiana. Randle/Clarkson/Hou 1st/future draft picks would be a hell of a haul for someone who is forcing their way to LA as it is.
I hate to be that guy, but the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to favor the stand pat stance and try for PG next offseason in free agency. I am starting to get worried that we will give up the entire team to get him just to appease Jeanie and have an all star for the all star game. We as fans can make this happen. It's fan voting, and we outnumber every other fan base by a wide margin. Let's get Deng in the all star game.
It's not enough for PG-13. Make that pick the top 3 pick (assuming we keep it) and I think we have a chance. But chances are that Houston pick will end up as a bench player or a role player if Indy gets lucky (and a lot of draft success at the back end like that is luck). So Indy is essentially getting an undersized power forward who has been wildly inconsistent and can't play a lick of defense and a sg who plays iso too much and can't defend. If George makes All-NBA next season, doesn't that make him eligible for the super max? If I'm Indy and Randle, Clarkson and a low draft pick is the best offer, I'd bet on George making one of the All-NBA teams and daring him to walk away from all that extra money. Sure he may not and he may walk for nothing, but missing out on Randle and Clarkson wouldn't be the end of the world for Indy.
Okay. I'll call that bet. I'm not blowing up my team. I'm not giving up a Top 3 pick for a rental. Let him go somewhere else.
Like I said in the post above my reply to you, that's where I'm starting to lean. I am a bit fearful that the new management team will want to make a "splash" though. I just feel like we have been through 4 years of dog feces and if all we have to show for it is PG-13 and maybe one of Ingram or Russell, we didn't do so well.
Randle, Clarkson, 3rd pick, and Houston 1st Randle, Clarkson, 2nd pick, and Deng or Mosgov Clarkson, 1st overall and Deng or Mosgov No team is trading for Paul George unless he signs an extension. So, with that, the Lakers will have leverage. It's all there for the taking.
my formula is rather simple. nobody gets two of top 3/russell/ingram unless you're giving me a lebron level player. since that's not happening, i'm not on board with any such trade. i'll give up any one of that group for an all star in his prime. if i get to dump deng, i might add randle or clarkson or even nance. i don't think the houston pick has any real value, which is why i didn't care for that trade.
I don't think that's giving up too much IF, like in my scenario, we also get rid of a bad contact in Deng. As fans, we want our team to clearly come out on top of any trades, but PG for top 3+ Russel and Deng is pretty even to me. Anything less, and you're expecting another Pau level fleeing to go down IMO. This would all be predicated on PG signing an extension of course. No way we give up all that for a rental. Moving Deng in this trade would also give us so much more flexibility going forward that we could sign another star, and still afford some really good role players as well. Win win overrall
I said this either way earlier in this thread or in the tank thread, but I'm not for giving up the top 3 pick if we keep it just to get rid of Deng and clean up Mitch and Jim's mess. The top 3 pick would be a reward to possibly use to get another all-star player in here, or draft one of these guards (Ball, Fultz, Fox) to replace Russ if he goes out for PG. I'm fine with being stuck with Deng if we can't move him and trying to move Moz to free up space. If we can't move Deng, we have to hope like hell he works as hard as he said he's gonna to try and prove people wrong next year. And if we had George, maybe Jimmy Butler, Ingram, hell maybe Deng as a backup for a couple years before he's an expiring could still be useful. But I'm not throwing that pick in if we keep it to dump Deng. Russell, Ingram, and that pick would be our top 3 trade assets, and 2 of them do not go out in one trade for me unless it's for a top 5 player.
i think the cousins deal hurts the pacers bargaining position. a top 3 + ingram or russell is way more for a similar situation (big extension coming up in a year, prime allstar player a threat to bolt). like mozgov may have set the center FA market, that trade will be negotiating point, i think.
